Öğe The effect of Reiki and guided imagery intervention on pain and fatigue in oncology patients: A non-randomized controlled study(Elsevier Science Inc, 2021) Buyukbayram, Zeliha; Saritas, Seyhan CitlikThis study was conducted to investigate the effects of Reiki and guided imagery on pain and fatigue in oncology patients. This quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design was conducted with 180 oncology patients at the oncology clinic of Dicle University Hospital in Turkey, between July 2017 and February 2018. The patients were divided into three groups: Reiki, guided imagery and control, with 60 patients in each group. The Reiki and guided imagery group patients underwent their respective interventions for three consecutive days separately (25-30 min; mean: 15.53 min). The interventions of Reiki and guided imagery reduced pain and fatigue in the oncology patients. It is recommended that oncology nurses use Reiki and guided imagery in patient care. All rights reserved.Öğe The Effects of Fear of COVID-19 on Future Expectations in Nursing Students in Turkey(Sage Publications Inc, 2022) Buyukbayram, Zeliha; Saritas, Seyhan CitlikThis study aims to determine the effects of fear of COVID-19 on future expectations among nursing students. The research is a correlational descriptive study. This study was conducted with 310 nursing students of a state university. The COVID-19 fear and future expectation mean scores of the participants were found, respectively, as 17.16 +/- 5.36 and 48.09 +/- 8.77. The COVID-19 fear levels of the participants significantly varied based on their gender, whereas their future expectation levels significantly varied based on their place of residence, status of willingly choosing their department and status of having someone in their surroundings and family who had COVID-19 (p < 0.05). No significant relationship was identified between the COVID-19 fear and future expectation levels of the participants (p > 0.05). In this study, it was determined that the COVID-19 fear and future expectation levels of the nursing students were moderate. It was found that fear of COVID-19 did not significantly affect future expectations.Öğe Effects of lavender oil intervention before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography on patients' vital signs, pain and anxiety: A randomized controlled study(Elsevier Science Inc, 2021) Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Buyukbayram, Zeliha; Serin, Emine Kaplan; Bilgic, YilmazBackground: This study was carried out to determine the effects of lavender oil intervention before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on patients' vital signs, pain and anxiety. Materials and methods: This study was designed as a randomized controlled study. The population of the study consisted of adult patients who were going to receive ERCP at the gastroenterology clinic of a university hospital. Ninety patients participated in the study. The data were collected using a Patient Information Form, a Pre-Post Test Record Form, VAS and the State Anxiety Scale. Results: After lavender oil intervention, the pulse rate, systolic-diastolic blood pressure, pain and anxiety levels of the patients in the experiment group were reduced, their oxygen saturation levels were increased, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Lavender oil applied on the patients before the ERCP procedure reduced their pulse rate, systolic diastolic blood pressure, pain and anxiety levels, while it increased their oxygen saturation levels. Design and MethodsA correlation and descriptive study from a convenience sample of 318 oncological patients aged 18 years and older was done. Subjects were measured with a Patient's Information Form, the Revised Illness Perception Questionnare, and the Strait-Trait Anxiety Inventory. FindingsWhen evaluated together with most of its subscales, illness perception was found to affect anxiety. Practice ImplicationsNurses should evaluate the anxiety levels of the cancer patients in every stage and should educate the patients and their relatives on coping with anxiety. Appropriate treatment and care depending on the illness perception of the cancer patients should be planned by nurses.Öğe Investigation of factors associated with stigma and social support in patients with epilepsy in Turkey: A cross-sectional study(Academic Press Inc Elsevier Science, 2022) Karakas, Nese; Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Aktura, Seher Cevik; Karabulutlu, Elanur Yilmaz; Oruc, Fatma GunduzAim: The purpose of this study was to identify the stigma and multidimensional perceived social support levels of patients with epilepsy, as well as the factors affecting them. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 115 patients with epilepsy followed up in a university hospital in eastern Turkey. The data of the study were collected using the descriptive information form, the Jacoby Stigma Scale, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Data analysis was performed using t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The rate of exposure to stigma of the patients in the study was 62.4%. Those under 30 years of age, single, with low economic status, and living with their parents and siblings had higher stigma scale mean scores than the other groups (p = 0.001, p < 0.001, p = 0.001, p = 0.019, respectively). Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support total scores were higher in women and married people (p = 0.020, p = 0.01, respectively). A statistically significant negative moderate correlation was found between the patients' Stigma scale mean values and Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale mean values (r =-0.568. p < 0.01). Conclusion: According to the study's findings, stigma is prevalent among patients with epilepsy. Increasing social awareness in order to augment social support in patients with epilepsy and providing the patient with positive coping strategies may be effective in reducing stigma in patients with epilepsy. All rights reserved.Öğe Investigation of the effect of education on risk factors in patients with history of myocardial infarction(Drunpp-Sarajevo, 2012) Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Tan, MehtapThis study was performed in order to determine the effects of education and the type of education with regard to behaviors, on risk factors and in decreasing risk factors in patients who have experienced myocardial infarction for the first time, respectively. The study enrolled 100 patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to the coronary care unit, department of cardiology of a university hospital, between 30th of March 2003 and 15th of February 2004. A two-part survey was used to collect the data. The questionnaires comprised of a socio-demographic questionnaire and an evaluation form of the result of care. Differences between average scores after care in the experimental group were found to be statistically significant between 1st, 2nd and the 3rd controls, whereas the difference between 1st, 2nd and the 3rd controls in control group was found to be insignificant. This study showed that a planned, supported and repetitive educational program initiated at an early stage is more effective for patients.Öğe Psychometric evaluation of the Drug Avoidance Self-Efficacy Scale(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2019) Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Erci, BehicePurpose: The aim of this study was to adapt the Drug Avoidance Efficacy Scale, and to assess the validity and reliability of the scale in Turkish adolescents. Methods: This is a psychometric study. The number of students who were recruited was twenty times the number of scale items. A convenience sample of 320 undergraduate students was recruited from a university in Turkey. Result: Principal component analysis identified one factor. The factor loadings of the items were ranged 0.41-0.91. The internal reliability coefficient was 0.70 for the scale. It was also found that the scale explained 73.1% of the total variance. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it may be statedthat this study provides evidence for the Drug Avoidance Self-Efficacy Scale's validity and reliability.Öğe The Relationship Between Spirituality and Hopelessness Among Cancer Patients in Turkey(Springer, 2022) Tasan, Nazan; Saritas, Seyhan CitlikThe aim of this study was to determine the relationship between spirituality and hopelessness in cancer patients. The study used a cross-sectional and correlational design and included 650 cancer patients. The data were collected using a patient information form, the Spiritual Orientation Scale, and the Beck Hopelessness Scale. The data were analyzed by MANOVA and linear regression analysis. Cancer patients had high levels of spirituality (89.74 +/- 32.79) and low levels of hopelessness (6.50 +/- 5.61). A statistically significant relationship was found between the mean Spiritual Orientation Scale scores of the patients and their sociodemographic characteristics (sex, age, marital status, educational status, employment status, income) (p < 0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between the mean Beck Hopelessness Scale scores of the patients and their sociodemographic characteristics (age, marital status, income status) (p < 0.05). According to the linear regression analysis, a significant negative correlation was found between the spirituality and hopelessness levels of the patients (p < 0.01, R-2 = 0.503, b = - 0.641). As the patients' spirituality increased, their levels of hopelessness decreased.Öğe The Turkish Adaptation of the Diabetes Fatalism Scale: A Validity and Reliability Study(Springer Publishing Co, 2022) Serin, Emine Kaplan; Saritas, Seyhan CitlikBackground and Objective: This study was carried out as a validity and reliability study of the Turkish version of the Diabetes Fatalism Scale (DFS) and to investigate its psychometric properties in the Turkish society with type 2 diabetes patients. Methods: Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to assess the scale's factor structure. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to validate the best fit model. Results: The explanatory factor analysis and CFA results confirmed the three-factor structure of the scale. The Cronbach's alpha, item-total correlation and test-retest analyses showed high reliability. Conclusion: The results showed that DFS is a valid and reliable tool for evaluating fatalism in diabetic patients from a Turkish population.Öğe TURKISH VERSION OF THE DUTCH HEART FAILURE KNOWLEDGE SCALE: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY(Pakistan Cardiac Soc, 2020) Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Cevik, Seher; Ozden, Gurkan; Salik, SerbulentObjective: To determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale. Methodology: The cross sectional study was composed of patients who were followed up in cardiology clinics of a university hospital in Malatya. Consecutive patients were enrolled in the study. Data were collected using Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale, along with a questionnaire regarding demographic properties. The scale consisted of 15 items, and every item was scored as either 0 or 1. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis were applied to assessed the Scale validity. Results: Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale reliability was assessed with Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient, item-total score correlation, and test-retest analysis, which ranged between 0.70-0.82, 0.54-0.86, and 0.30-0.52, respectively. Conclusion: The results of Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis supported the single factor scale structure and Confirmatory Factor Analysis yielded good fit indices. The Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale Turkish version is valid, reliable.Öğe Undergraduate Nursing Students' Stress and Fear of Missing Out(Slack Inc, 2021) Aktura, Seher Cevik; Ozden, Gurkan; Saritas, Seyhan CitlikBackground: This descriptive study analyzed the stress in nursing education and the fear of missing out. Method: This study was conducted at a public university in eastern Turkey and included 1,119 undergraduate nursing students. Result: Findings indicated there was no statistically significant relationship between the levels of stress experienced by students during their nursing education and their fears of missing out. Conclusion: In light of these findings, recommendations include identifying the factors leading to stress and fear of missing out for undergraduate nursing students and then developing potential strategies to help allay nursing students' stress and fears.Öğe Validity study of the Turkish version of the barriers to insulin treatment questionnaire(Springer India, 2019) Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Erci, Behice; Sahin, Ibrahim; Timocin, EvrimThe purpose of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the Barriers to Insulin Treatment Questionnaire and adapt the questionnaire for Turkish society. This was a cross-sectional study. The population of this study consisted of adult patients with type 2 diabetes who were using insulin and being monitored in the Endocrine and Outpatient Clinics of Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Centre. The sample of the study consisted of 348 patients. The data were collected by using the Barriers to Insulin Treatment Questionnaire (BITQ) and a survey including demographic characteristics. The 14 items of the questionnaire are scored between 1 and 10. BITQ has five factors as fear of injections and self-testing, expectations regarding positive insulin-related outcomes, expected hardship from insulin treatment, stigmatization by insulin injections, and fear of hypoglycemia. In order to test the construct validity of the questionnaire, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were utilized. The reliability of BITQ was evaluated by its Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient, item total correlation, and test-retest reliability. It was determined that the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients of the questionnaire factors ranged between 0.70 and 0.82, the scale item factor loadings varied from 0.54 to 0.86, and the item total correlation coefficients were between 0.30 and 0.52. CFA supported the 5-factor scale structure obtained as a result of EFA. Good fit index values were obtained as a result of CFA. According to the obtained results, it may be asserted that BITQ is valid and reliable in terms of its application in Turkish society.
