Öğe Comparison of fluconazole and ketoconazole in the treatment of superficial dermatophyte infections(1996) Dogan G.; Sasmaz S.; Ozcan A.; Senol M.; Yologlu S.Background and design.- In this study, we compared the efficacy of fluconazole and ketoconazole in dermatophytosis. Fifty six patients with superficial dermatophyte infection, were randomly given either once-weekly of oral fluconazole 150 mg, or oral ketoconazole 200 mg/d for four weeks. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated clinically cure and direct microscopic examination at 30th, 60th and 90th day after cessation of the drug. Side effect profile was decided with patients' complaints and laboratory examination. Results.- At the end of study, 85.71% on the 30th day, 92.86% on the 60th day and 85.71% on the 90th day in the fluconazole group showed mycologic eradication; in the ketoconazole group were found 89.28%, 85.71% and 82.14%, respectively. But there was no statistical difference between the two agents. None of the patients described any subjective side effects and all laboratory examination results were normal. Conclusion.- Finally, fluconazole and ketoconazole were found to be equally effective in superficial dermatophyte infections.
