Öğe Comparison of substance users under judicial supervision with controls in terms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and emotion regulation difficulties(Klinik Psikiyatri Dergisi, 2024) Akan, Mustafa; Ayaz, Nusret; Ugur, KerimObjective: Substance abuse and addiction are reported to be approximately 2 times more common in individuals diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) compared to the general population. Adults with ADHD have been stated to have difficulties in emotion regulation as well as core symptoms of the disease. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate individuals who applied to a university hospital psychiatry clinic probation clinic in terms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and emotion regulation difficulties. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals who apply to the outpatient clinic will have higher ADHD symptoms and emotion regulation difficulties than healthy controls. Method: The research was conducted between 18.06.22-30.10.22. 135 male patients diagnosed with substance use disorder and 141 healthy volunteers without any psychiatric disease were included in the study. Adult ADHD selfreport scale (ASRS), Difficulty in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-16), and sociodemographic data form were administered to the participants. Results: The probation group's ASRS total score, attention deficit and hyperactivity/impulsivity subscale scores were found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group (p=0.004, p=0.005, p=0.007, respectively). Also DERS-16 impulse and nonacceptance subscale scores of the probation group were statistically significantly higher than the control group (p=0.001, p=0.015, respectively). Discussion: ADHD and accompanying emotion regulation difficulties may increase the risk of substance use in adults. Considering these clinical features in individuals applying to the probation outpatient clinic may make therapeutic interventions more effective.Öğe The effect of functional remission and cognitive insight on criminal behavior in patients with schizophrenia(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2023) Polat, Hatice; Ugur, Kerim; Aslanoglu, Eren; Yildiz, Sevler; Yagin, Fatma HilalObjective: This study was planned to determine the relationship of functional remission with a criminal history and determine its effect on criminal behavior in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 132 patients with schizophrenia (66 with and 66 without a criminal history). Data were collected between November 2020 and April 2021 using a personal information form, the Functional Remission of General Schizophrenia (FROGS), the Taylor Crime Violence Rating Scale, the Beck Cognitive Insight Scale, and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was used to collect data. Results: In terms of all scale variables, there were significant differences between the groups with and without a criminal history (p < 0.05). These differences were mostly clearly observed in the FROGS-social functionality (effect size: 16.79), PANSS-positive (effect size: 2.62) and FROGS-health and treatment (effect size: 2) subscales. Conclusions: In this study, it was determined that as the symptoms of the illness increased in schizophrenia, the patients' functional remission and insight decreased, and their tendency to commit crimes increased. Psychiatric nurses can plan therapeutic interventions to increase the functionality and insight levels of patients with schizophrenia.Öğe Evaluation of temperament/personality traits, alexithymia, psychiatric symptoms, and quality of life in female patients diagnosed with infertility(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2020) Yildiz, Sevler; Ugur, Kerim; Sandogan, Erdinc; Yagin, Fatma Hilal; Akkus, MustafaPurpose: The aim of this study was to compare the temperament/personality characteristics, alexithymia, psychiatric symptoms, and quality of life of a group of infertile women with the healthy control group, and thus to provide a basis for assessing the possible causal relationship between the phenomenon of infertility and these characteristics. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five women between 18-49 years of age who were diagnosed with infertility in the obstetrics outpatient clinic were included in the patient group and 75 healthy female individuals in the control group. Beck Depression Inventory, State Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI I-II), Quality of Life Scale, TEMPS Temperament Scale, and Toronto Alexithymia Scale were administered to all participants, and a semi-structured interview form was employed to question the clinical-sociodemographic characteristics. Results: Depression and anxiety scores of the patient group were higher than the control group's scores and the differences were statistically significant. The quality of life scale scores of the patient group were found to be lower in each sub-scale, and the differences were statistically significant. TheTemps-A sub-scales scores of the patient group were higher with statistically significant differences. Conclusion: Our findings support the need to investigate the possible accompanying psychosocial disorders in women receiving infertility treatment. The psychological support will be important for this group of women in terms of positively affecting the outcome during the treatment processÖğe Molecular Mechanism of the Protective Effect of Tianeptine Against Ketamine-Induced Cardiac Injury in Rats(Colegio Farmaceuticos Provincia De Buenos Aires, 2021) Yildiz, Sevier; Ugur, Kerim; Tas, Hakan G.; Ozcicek, Fatih; Kuyrukluyildiz, Ufuk; Mendil, Ali S.; Cankaya, MuratKetamine is a short-acting anesthetic drug that is derived from phencyclidine. Ketamine is used to treat depression and chronic pain disorders, as well as for anesthesia, analgesia, and sedation. Ketamine's sympathomimetic characteristic causes cardiotoxicity. The pathophysiology of ketamine's harmful impact has been linked to reactive oxygen species (ROS) and proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin 1 beta (IL-1), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha). Tianeptine is an antidepressant that works similarly to tricyclic antidepressants. According to studies, tianeptine reduces the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as ROS, IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-alpha. Tianeptine has a sympatholytic action as well. All of this evidence suggests that tianeptine might help to reduce ketamine cardiotoxicity. The goal of our research is to use biochemical and histological techniques to see how tianeptine affects ketamine-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.Öğe The Relationship among Dyadic Adjustment and Disease Burden in Patients with Bipolar Disorder and Their Spouses(Mdpi, 2023) Namli, Zeynep; Tamam, Lut; Demirkol, Mehmet Emin; Karaytug, Mahmut Onur; Yesiloglu, Caner; Ugur, Kerim(1) Background: Spouses of individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) experience significant burdens, and the perception of the burden may affect dyadic adjustment. We aimed to investigate the sexual functions, alexithymic traits, marital satisfaction, and burden in patients with BD and their spouses. We also aimed to assess the mediating role of sexual functions and alexithymia in the relationship between burden and dyadic adjustment. (2) Methods: We included 81 patients with BD type 1 (40.69 +/- 8.55 years, 65.4% female, and 34.6% male) and their healthy spouses (40.95 +/- 7.30 years, 34.6% female, and 65.4% male) and 78 healthy controls (38.90 +/- 5.88, 48.7% female, and 51.3% male). The participants were evaluated using the Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS), Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20), and Burden Assessment Scale (BAS). (3) Results: The GRISS scores of the control group were significantly lower than the spouses and BD groups. The DAS total score of the control group was significantly higher than that of the spouses and BD groups. Regression analyses revealed that TAS, GRISS, and HDRS scores were associated with DAS scores in the BD group. In the spouse group, TAS and BAS scores were associated with DAS scores. The GRISS scores partially mediated the relationship between dyadic adjustment and burden in the spouses of patients with BD. (4) Conclusions: Mental health professionals should regularly scan caregivers' perceptions of burden. Appropriate psychosocial interventions could help spouses of patients with BD to cope better with the burden and improve dyadic adjustment.Öğe Relationship between obsessional dissociation and family adjustment and anxiety sensitivity in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2023) Polat, Hatice; Kartal, Fatma; Ugur, KerimPurpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between obsessional dissociation, family accommodation, and anxiety sensitivity in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).Materials and Methods: The participants of this descriptive and relationship-seeking study were 62 individuals with OCD and 43 healthy controls. We collected data using a sociodemographic data form, the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS), the Family Accommodation Scale-Patient Version (FAS-PV), the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (ASI-3), and the Van Obsessional Dissociation Questionnaire (VOD-Q).Results: Both the ASI-3 and VOD-Q subscale and global scores of the patients participating in the study were higher than those of the healthy controls, and there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Sixty-two percent of the total score of VOD-Q was explained by the ASI-3 total and subscale scores, 16% by the YBOCS total and subscale scores, and 11% by the FAS-PV total and subscale scores (F:38.622; F:6.797; and F:2.941, respectively). Conclusion: In our study, individuals diagnosed with OCD had higher levels of obsessional dissociation than healthy individuals and anxiety sensitivity, obsessive compulsive symptoms, and family accommodation are effective in the development of obsessional dissociation in individuals diagnosed with OCD.Öğe The relationship of suicidal ideation with psychological pain and anger rumination in patients with major depressive disorder(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2021) Ugur, Kerim; Polat, HaticeObjective: The study was conducted to determine the association between ruminating anger and mental pain with suicidal ideation in patients diagnosed with major depression disorder. Methods: The study with 156 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder was carried out in a crosssectional study design.
