Öğe Evaluation of pre-procedure anxiety levels for undergoing mammography women(Drunpp-Sarajevo, 2012) Arslan, Sevban; Nazik, Evsen; Uzun, Ozge; Torun, Serap; Taylan, SecilPurpose: The present study evaluated of pre-procedure anxiety levels for undergoing mammography women. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. 15-item questionnaire and the 20-item State Anxiety Inventory, developed by Spielberger et al. were used for data collection. Percentage, arithmetic average, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskall-Wallis test were used to analyze the data. Findings: The women, whose average age is 49.78 +/- 8.67,87.5 % are married; 46.9 % are graduated from primary school; 60.9 % are not working; 58.6 % are during the period of menopose; 86.7 % have children and 62.5 % have breast cancer in their family members. The total anxiety score averages of women are 57.17 +/- 8.33. The level of anxiety about mammography screening was found to be higher in women with low educational levels and this difference was found to be statistically significant. Conclusions: From the results of this study it has been determined that women having mammography have a moderate level of anxiety.Öğe EXAMINATION OF EFFECT ON BODY IMAGE, SELF-ESTEEM AND MARITAL ADJUSTMENT OF MASTECTOMY IN WOMEN WITH BREAST CANCER(Aves, 2008) Ucar, Tuba; Uzun, OzgeINTRODUCTION AND AIM: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Turkish women, accounting for 24.1% of all cancer in women. The loss of a breast by reason of mastectomy applied for treatment of breast cancer causes significant psychosocial problems among women. Aim of this study is to investigate the effect on body image, self-esteem and marital adjustment of mastectomy in women with breast cancer. METHOD AND MATERIALS: This research was carried out retrospectively and analytic by way of comparing a group of women with mastectomy with a healthy control group bearing similar attributes. The sample of study included in 52 women who undergone mastectomy in General Surgery Department of Turgut ozal Medical Center between the dates January 1st 2002 and August 31st 2006 and 52 women with healthy. Data were collected by using questionnaire forms for women with mastectomy and healthy, Body Cathexis Scale (BCS), Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSS) and Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS). FINDINGS: According to the mean total scores obtained from BCS, RSS and DAS; body image, self-esteem and marital adjustment of women with mastectomy was significantly lower than in women with healthy (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: It was determined that mastectomy caused negatively impact on body image, self-esteem and marital adjustment in women with breast cancer.Öğe Investigation of Job Satisfaction Levels of Nurses Working in a University Hospital and Some Variables Related Their Job Satisfaction(Istanbul Univ, Fac Nursing, 2010) Uzun, OzgePurpose: Purpose of this study was to investigate job satisfaction levels of the nurses working at a university hospital and the some variables the related to their job satisfaction. Method: This descriptive study was carried out in Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center in February, 2008. The sample of the study included in 266 nurses. The data were collected using a questionnaire prepared by the investigator and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire short form. Results: General job satisfaction mean score of nurses was 3.30 +/- 0.71, reflecting moderate level satisfaction. Internal satisfaction mean score (3.52 +/- 0.75) of nurses was higher than their external mean score (2.98 +/- 0.86). It was found that the general job satisfaction mean scores of the married nurses (3.39 +/- 0.69), nurses who worked in the internal clinics (3.55 +/- 0.54), nurses who had responsible of the unite (3.59 +/- 0.62), nurses who worked in continuous day time shift (3.52 +/- 0.58), nurses who participated the scientific activities (3.40 +/- 0.66) were significantly higher than other nurses (P<0.05). Conclusion: General and internal job satisfaction of nurses was moderate level, and their external job satisfaction was low level. Results of this study showed that job satisfaction of nurses was related to variables such as marital status, the unit of work, position at work, time of work, and participate to scientific activities.Öğe Post-Discharge learning needs of General Surgery patients(Professional Medical Publications, 2011) Uzun, Ozge; Ucuzal, Meral; Inan, GoncaObjective: To determine whether the post discharge information needs of general surgical patients were fulfilled according to the Patient Learning Needs Scale (PLNS). Methodology: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted on patients in General Surgery Department of a university medical center in Malatya, Turkey. The sample included 90 patients. Data were accumulated using by Patient Information Form and PLNS, between January-February, 2010. Results: The PLNS mean total score of patients was 196.99 +/- 36.14 with an importance level of 3.94 were found to be very important for patients learning needs. Before discharge, 50% of patients did not have sufficient information about their discharge. Physicians supplied 43.3% of discharge information whereas nurses supplied 15.6% of such information. Female patients' mean total score was statistically significantly higher than that of male patients (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Results of this study showed that participants had significantly high needs for discharge education concerning home care after discharge. Results suggest a need for implementation of enhanced patient education needs in meeting.
