Öğe The effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with Schizophrenia: A cross-sectional study(Wiley, 2022) Yildirim Usenmez, Tulay; Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Erkan, Fatma Melike; Bayar, Behiye Dilmen; Can, Sevinc Yasar; Sanli, Mehmet EminObjective The aim of this study is to determine the effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted with 147 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Results A strong positive correlation was determined between the mindfulness level and medication adherence of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Furthermore, mindfulness of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia was statistically significant in explaining medication adherence (p < 0.05) and mindfulness predicted medication adherence by 64%. Conclusion It was observed that the individuals' mindfulness level was low and half of the participants had low medication adherence. Moreover, as their mindfulness level increased, so did their medication adherence.Öğe The Effect of Spiritual Well-being on Hope in Immobile Patients Suffering From Paralysis Due to Spinal Cord Injuries(Springer, 2022) Yildirim Usenmez, Tulay; Kavak Budak, Funda; Yilmaz, RidvanThis study aimed to determine the effect of spiritual well-being on hope in immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injuries. The sample size of this cross-sectional study was determined to be 100 immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injuries via power analysis. Descriptive Characteristics Form, Spiritual Well-being Scale, and Dispositional Hope Scales were used to collect the data. It was determined that participants' spiritual well-being scores were 22.25 +/- 9.62 and their hope scores were 29.53 +/- 9.83. There was a weak but positive correlation between the total scores on the hope scale and the spiritual well-being scale (p = 0.001, r = 0.477). Among immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injury, spiritual well-being levels accounted for 22% of the variance in hope levels (p = 0.001, R-2 = 0.22). This study showed that as patients' spiritual well-being levels increased, their hope levels also increased.Öğe The Effect of Breathing and Relaxation Exercises Training on Psychological Well-Being and Sleep Quality in Individuals Diagnosed With Schizophrenia: A Randomized Controlled Study(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2025) Yildirim Usenmez, Tulay; Kavak Budak, FundaThis study was conducted to determine the effect of breathing and relaxation exercises training on psychological well-being and sleep quality in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. This study was conducted at a community mental health center between October 2022 and April 2023 as a randomized controlled study with a pretest-posttest control group. The study's participants were 64 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia (31 in the experimental group and 33 in the control group). The Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Psychological Well-being Scale, and the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index were used to collect data. The individuals in the experimental group underwent 6 sessions of breathing and relaxation exercises training in the form of group training, and no training was applied to the individuals in the control group. It was determined that the individuals in the experimental group had an increase in the total mean score of psychological well-being and a decrease in the total mean score of sleep quality after breathing and relaxation exercise training. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the posttest psychological well-being and sleep quality total mean scores of the experimental and control groups (P < .05). It can be said that breathing and relaxation exercises training can be used as an effective intervention to increase the psychological well-being and sleep quality of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and can be used in addition to pharmacological treatment.
