Öğe Meteorologic parameters and migraine headache: ED study(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2015) Yilmaz, Mustafa; Gurger, Mehtap; Atescelik, Metin; Yildiz, Mustafa; Gurbuz, SukruAim: Migraine is common in society and is one of the primary causes of chronic headache with episodes. In this study, we aimed to determine the role of meteorologic parameters and moon phase on triggering migraine attacks and effects on the number of patients presenting to the emergency department with migraine headaches. Materials and Methods: Patients admitted to the emergency department due to a migraine headache during a 1-year period were studied retrospectively. Correlation between moon phases, pressure, temperature, humidity, wind speed values of meteorologic observation, and recording station located in the same city and daily number of patients was analyzed. Results: A total of 3491 patients, of whom 72% (n = 2518) were women, were enrolled. The average daily number of patients was 9.6 +/- 4 (3-24). A statistically significant correlation was found between the number of daily patients and daily maximum temperature (P = .005), mean temperature (P = .013), minimum temperature (P = .041), and daily temperature change (P = .003). In addition, a negative correlation was found between the daily number of patients presenting to the emergency department and daily relative humidity (in percentage; P = .031). No significant relationship was found between moon phases and the number of patients. Conclusion: We have determined that the number of patients admitted to the emergency department with migraine headache has increased with high temperature and low humidity and that there is no relationship between the number of patients and moon phases. One of the antioxidative systems against oxidative stress in human body is paraoxonase (PON) enzyme that protects low density lipoproteins (LDL) against oxidation. This study aimed to explore the polymorphisms on PON1, Q192R, L55M genes of patients with COPD. METHODS: DNAs extraction was obtained from blood samples of 50 patients diagnosed with COPD and 50 patients as a control group who were presented to emergency clinic. Genotypes were obtained with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and AIw I and Hsp92II restriction enzymes were used for Q192R and L55M polymorphisms, respectively. Analysis of data was done with the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: A statistically significant difference in Q192R polymorphism was found between the COPD patients and the control group (P=0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in L55M polymorphisms between the patient and control groups (P>0.05). Q192R polymorphism was significantly correlated with the PON1 gene and cigarette smoking; however other risk factors did not show any significant correlation with this polymorphism. Though L55M polymorphism was significantly correlated with family history and tuberculosis, there was no significant correlation with other risk factors. CONCLUSION: We believe that more studies are needed to study the correlation of L55M polymorphism with other factors.Öğe Primary Negative Prognostic Factors in Pediatric and Adult Patients Undergoing Trigger Finger Surgery(Springernature, 2024) Koroglu, Muhammed; Karakaplan, Mustafa; Yildiz, Mustafa; Eren, Mehmet; Ergen, Emre; Cicek, Ipek Balikci; Aslantuerk, OkanObjectives This study aims to investigate the negative prognostic indicators of pediatric and adult trigger finger surgery patients concerning complications, recurrence, and satisfaction. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 61 patients with a total of 91 trigger fingers, including 31 in children and 30 in adult patients, all of whom were treated using a standardized surgical technique. The study considered several demographic and clinical factors, including age, gender, dominant hand, body mass index, occupation, history of trauma, single or multiple finger involvement, staging according to Green classification, diabetes mellitus, comorbidities, recurrence, revision surgery, utilization of non -surgical treatment methods, need for rehabilitation after surgery, time to return to work, the time interval from clinic initiation to the surgery, satisfaction and the duration of the follow-up period. In addition, the quick version of the disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (QDASH); and the visual analog scale (VAS) were used to assess patients' data. Results In adult patients, a statistically significant relationship was observed between the increasing grade of the Green stage and complication rate (p<0.001), recurrence (p<0.001), and lower satisfaction (p<0.001). No statistically significant relationship was identified between Green's classification and complications (p=0.129), recurrence (p=0.854), or satisfaction (p=0.143) in pediatric patients. While a statistically significant relationship existed between the time interval from clinic initiation to surgery and complications (p=0.033) in adult patients, no significant relationships were observed for recurrence or satisfaction. Conversely, there was no statistically significant relationship between the time interval from clinic initiation to surgery and complications, recurrence, or satisfaction in pediatric patients. Conclusion This study demonstrates that increasing the grade of the Green stage and duration of symptoms before surgery were the substantial factors contributing to prognosis in adult patients but not in pediatric patients. These findings can assist physicians during patients' treatment management. We suggest that physicians consider these factors for patients' satisfaction.Öğe Surveying the relationships between the goal orientations of the students sporting as team sport and individualistically and the level of their basic psychologic needs at the school of physical education and sports(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Tekin, Murat; Yildiz, Mustafa; Sahan, Hasan; Devecioglu, Sebahattin; Gullu, Mehmet; Ulucan, BuketThe aim of this study is surveying the relationships between the goal orientations of the students sporting as team sport and individualistically and the level of their basic psychologic needs at the school of physical education and sports. 126 male and 83 femal in total 209 students sporting actively at the schools of Physical Education and Sports of Gazi University, Selcuk University, Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University and Ataturk University attended the survey (average of age is 22.3971 +/- 1.75 years). Firstly, the present data concerning the aim of the study has been given systematically by reviewing the literature. Thus, a theoretical framework has been formed. Secondly, Scale of Task and Ego Orientation of Sports developed by Duda (1989) and adapted to Turkish athletes by Toros (2001) and Basic Psychological Needs Scale Decive Ryan (2000) adapted to Turkish by Kesici, Ure et al. (2003) have been applied to the students to achieve the objectives of the research. In the analysis and commenting the data; by using the pearson product moment correlation statistical technique, P<0,05 significance has been taken. SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences) has been used in the evaluation of the data and finding the estimated values. In the result of this research, a significance relationship was found between the task and ego orientations and self determination and competence and level of relationships of the students sporting as team sport. According to these results, the success level of the students sporting as team sport about their competence and self determination decides that they contribute positively the evaluations regarding how good the individual's daytime will be. The findings in this study were parallel with the current study. There has been no significant relationship between the self determination and competence levels of the students sporting as individualistically, a significant relationship has been found between the relationship levels. These results reveal that ego-oriented sportsmen focus on external criteria to indicate achievement and believe the importance of opportunities and social comparisons as the achievement criteria and the conclusion that these behaviours are more important for ego-oriented sportsmen than perceived abilities, intense work and effort.
