Öğe Determination of distress, emotional eating and internalized weight bias levels of Turkish pregnant women(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2023) Celik, Gulay; Yilmaz, Emine; Nazik, Feyza; Unver, HacerThis study was conducted to determine the stress, emotional eating and weight bias levels of Turkish pregnant women. The study sample was composed of 210 pregnant women, who met the research inclusion criteria and admitted to the obstetrics and gynaecology outpatient clinics of Bingol Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Research data were collected between December 2018 and June 2019, using face-to-face interview technique. Personal Information Form, Tilburg Pregnancy Distress Scale (TPDS), Internalised Weight Bias Scale (IWBS), and Emotional Eating sub-scale items of the Netherlands Eating Behaviour Questionnaire used to collect data. In our study, 47.9% of pregnant women were found to be overweight or obese according to the pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) average. Pregnant women experience a moderate level of stress, emotional eating and weight bias. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the weight bias score averages and the emotional eating and stress score averages of the pregnant women (p < .05). In our study, stress, emotional eating and weight bias score averages of pregnant women in the 3rd trimester were found to be higher than that of the pregnant women in the 2nd trimester (p < .05). It has been determined that nearly 1in 2 pregnant women was overweight or obese, when BMI level of the women increased, weight stigma and emotional eating of them also increased. IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject? To be overweight or obese pre-pregnancy is risk for pregnancy complications and adverse birth outcomes. What do the results of this study add? It is important to inform nurses about the relationship between stress, weight bias, eating disorders, and obesity; moreover, care should be providing with the awareness that pregnant women with obesity are at greater risk in terms of these factors. It is of great importance to provide the necessary training and counselling by nurses to ensure the psychological adaptation of pregnant women to childbirth and the postpartum period. Besides, any disadvantage or disparity between overweight and obese pregnant women in the care process should be eliminated, and all pregnant women, regardless of their body size, should have equal access to supportive prenatal and postnatal care. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? It is of great importance to providing training and consultation by nurses on coping with stress and stigma and eating during pregnancy in order to ensure psychological adjustment of the pregnant women to childbirth and the postpartum period, which are at risk in terms of stress, emotional eating and weight bias factors.Öğe The effect of hope on the treatment adherence of schizophrenia patients(2018) Kavak, Funda; Yilmaz, EmineAim: This study was conducted to determine the effects of hope on treatment adherence in schizophrenia patients. Material and Methods: Between January 2018 and May 2018, 250 adult patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia at a mental health and illness hospital. The study included 105 patients who were in remission without sampling and who were open to communication and collaboration and who agreed to participate in the study. In the data collection, the Descriptive Properties Form, the Herth Hope Scale and the Morisky Treatment Adherence Scale were used by the researchers. In this context, the mental well-being and empathy levels of nurses significantly impact the efficiency of healthcare services and patient contentment. This study investigates the impact of mindfulness-based empathy training and obese simulation suits on nursing students' attitudes and empathy levels towards obese patients. The research, conducted as a randomized controlled trial, encompassed 84 nursing students and employed the Attitude Scale Towards Obese Patients, Jefferson Empathy Scale for Nursing Students, and Descriptive Information Form. Data analysis involved two-factor ANOVA for mixed measurements. The study revealed significant interaction effects between group and time concerning nursing students' attitudes towards obese individuals [F(1,70) = 43.281, p < 0.05] as well as their empathy levels towards obese individuals [F(1,70) = 15.657, p < 0.05]. The experimental group exhibited a noteworthy increase in both attitudes and empathy levels compared to the control group. Furthermore, Single Factor ANOVA for Repeated Measures revealed a statistically significant difference in the experimental group's attitudes and empathy scores across pretest, posttest, and follow-up assessments [p < 0.01, partial eta 2 = 0.492 and 0.186, respectively]. These findings underscore the effectiveness of these interventions in enhancing essential nursing competencies necessary for providing comprehensive patient care. Thus, integrating these methods into the curriculum is recommended to cultivate more positive attitudes and heightened empathy among nursing students, particularly concerning obese patients, throughout their educational journey.Öğe Stigma Resistance Scale: A Psychometric Study in a Turkish Mental Illness Sample(Slack Inc, 2023) Okanli, Ayse; Budak, Merve Inan; Yilmaz, Emine; Ozdemir, Yusuf OzayAccording to the results, acceptable adaptation values were computed (& chi;2/ SD = 1.840, root-mean-square error of approximation = 0.06, standardized root-mean-square residuals = 0.070, comparative fit index = 0.96).
