Literary texts present human reality with a richness that goes beyond the boundaries of daily language. In doing this, authors make use of the poetic qualities of language and the symbol-producing potential of the unconscious. What distinguishes literary works from ordinary texts is symbolic language, which has the potential to give expressions an original and effective shape. The meanings behind symbolic language can be implied either through the representation of persons or concepts, or through the creation of a variety of images. That is why, in analyzing symbolic language, it is essential not only to focus on the elements in the text but also to make use of information external to the text and methods belonging to different scientific disciplines.
