Özet
Abstract:Bu araştırmanın amacı ilköğretim II. kademe öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler dersine yönelik tutumları ve öğrencilerin tutumları ile akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir.

The study is conducted in descriptive – survey model. The sample of the study includes 542 students from 13 schools selected from lower, middle and upper socioeconomic environment, in the city center of Şanlıurfa. The results indicate that students’ attitudes toward Social Studies course are at “strongly agree” level. There is not a significant difference between students’ attitudes according to socioeconomic environment of the school, their genders, their father’s educational background, gender of Social Studies Teacher who conducts lessons and the materials used in the Social Studies course. On the other hand, there is a significant difference according to their class levels, mothers’ educational background, monthly family income and having an additional supportive training for Social Studies course outside the school. Finally the study showed that there is a low, but positive and statistically significant relation between Students’ attitudes toward Social Studies course and their academic success.
