In the field of sociology, social movements arising from public displeasure emerged as an important research topic after the 1960s. Varying explanations for the reasons behind the different kinds of public displeasure, which lead to the emergence of social movements, change depending on specific sub-fields in sociology. While the factors canalizing a society to step into a tangible reaction have been assessed, the threat perception fed by the emotions, motivating actors to behave accordingly, has often been overlooked. Such an oversight has brought about errors in the examination of the movements. For this reason, it is necessary to examine approaches in studying social movements in terms of threat perception. This approach can bring the researchers' attention to the importance of the role of emotions in understanding human behavior.en_US
