Din - siyaset ilişkileri bağlamında Türkiye'de din eğitimi konusu tarihsel akış içerisinde nicel ve nitel anlamda çeşitlilik göstermektedir. Osmanlı döneminde bu eğitim, farklı kurumlarda (medrese, tekke ve zaviyeler) verilirken, bunların kapatılması ile imam hatip okulları açılmış ve din eğitimini devralmıştır. Bu dönemde din eğitimi politikalarının rejimin meşrulaştırılması, toplumsal kabul görmesine dayanak hâline getirmiştir. Din eğitiminde Türkiye'de tek parti döneminde bir yasaklar dönemi bulunmaktadır. Devlet, eğitim kurumlarında seküler bir eğitim vermeyi tercih etmiştir. Bu ihtiyacın karşılanmamış olması ileride yeni arayışları beraberinde getirmiş ve sağ iktidarların önünü açmıştır. Tek partili dönem içerisindeki tartışmalar sonucu din eğitimi ile ilgili kurslar açılması konusunda bir fikir birliği sağlanmıştır. Çok partili dönemle birlikte toplumun ihtiyacı olan din eğitimi, örgün eğitime dâhil edilmiş ve imam hatip okullarının tekrar açılması ile birlikte bu okullarda din eğitimi verilmeye başlanmıştır. Daha sonraki dönemlerde sağ partiler iktidarlarında bu konu siyasal bir argüman olarak ele alınmış ve din eğitimi bunun üzerinden yürütülmüştür. 28 Şubat postmodern darbe öncesi imam hatipler başta olmak üzere din eğitimi veren kurumlar mercek altına alınmış ve devletin temel politikaları ile çatıştığı ileri sürülerek yeni yasaklı ikinci bir dönem başlatılmıştır. AK Parti iktidarı ile birlikte imam hatip okullarının sayısında önemli ölçüde artış olmuştur. Din eğitimi bağlamındaki toplumsal talepler iktidarca karşılanmış, bu alanda nispi bir özgürlük sağlanmış ancak birçok alanda tartışmalar halen devam etmektedir. Religious education subject in Turkey vary in sense of quantitative and qualitative in the context of religion and politics in historical flow. During the Ottoman period, while this education was given in different instutions (madrasas, dervish lodge, zawiya, with the closure of the madrasas İmam Hatip schools were founded and have taken over it. In this period, the legalization of the policies of religious education was made a basis for social acceptance. There is a ban period in religious education in the single-party era in Turkey. The state chose to provide a secular education in educational institutions. The fact that this need had not been met brought new searches in the future. This paved the way for the right governments. As a result of the discussions in the single-party period, a consensus was reached on opening courses related to religious education. With the multiparty period, the religious education which the society needed was included in the formal education and it was started to be given in these schools with the reopening of the imam hatip schools. In later periods, this issue was considered as a political argument in the power of right-wing parties and religious education was carried out through this. Before the February 28 postmodern coup, religious education institutions, especially imam hatip schools, were taken under the spotlight and a new banned second period were initiated by asserting that they were in conflict with the basic policies of the state. The number of imam hatip schools has increased significantly with the AK Party government. Social demands in the context of religious education have been met by the government, relative freedom has been provided in this area, but debates still continues in many areas.
