Son yüzyılın en çok tartışılan kavramlarından birisi olan postmodernizm hayatın her alanını etkilemiş ve modern bilincin ortaya koyduğu algılayış ve bu algıyı ifade ediş biçimlerini değiştirmiş, bozuma uğratmıştır. En fazla etkinin hissedildiği alanlardan birisi de sanat etkinliklerinden biri olan roman türü olmuştur denilebilir. Dünya edebiyatında postmodernist kırılmalar 20. Yüzyılın ilk yarısında örneklerini verirken asıl örneklerini ikinci dünya savaşından sonra vermeye başlamıştır. Türk edebiyatında ise 40'lı yıllardan sonra Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Yusuf Atılgan, Oğuz Atay gibi yazarların romanlarında görülmeye başlanan postmodernist özellikler, 1980'den sonra yaygın bir şekilde kullanım alanına girer. 1990'dan sonraki dönemde eserlerini vermeye başlayan Hasan Ali Toptaş, romanlarıyla postmodernist anlayışın önemli temsilcilerinden olmayı başarmıştır. Birçok ödül almış bir yazar olarak, yaptığı söyleşilerde ve yazdığı yazılarda, postmodernist özelliklerin romanlarındaki yansımalarını kabul eden ifadeler kullanır. Bin Hüzünlü Haz adlı romanı Türk edebiyatının en önemli postmodernist örneklerinden birisi olmayı başarmıştır.
As one of the most debated concepts of the last century, postmodernism has effected all aspects of life and changed and distorted the perception put forward by the modern consciousness and the ways this perception is expressed. It can be stated that one of the most effected aspects is novels, one of the art activities. Even though the first examples of postmodernist fractures came into being in the first half of the 20th cetury, the prime examples were created after the Second World War. As for the Turkish literature, postmodernist aspects were first observed in the novels of authors such as Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Yusuf Atlgan and Oğuz Atay and were widely used after 1980. Starting to present his Works after 1990, Hasan Ali Toptaş became one of the leading representatives of postmodern understanding with his novels. As an author who has received many awards, he uses expressions that admit reflection of postmodernist aspects on novels in his interviews and manuscript. His novel titled Bin Hüzünlü Haz (Pleasure with a Thousand Sorrows) has managed to become one of the most important postmodernist examples of Turkish literature.
