Öğe The effects of Gingko biloba extract on acetic acid-induced colitis in rats(2006) Harputluo?lu M.M.M.; Demirel U.; Yücel N.; Karada? N.; Temel I.; Firat S.; Ara C.Background/aims: Gingko biloba is an antioxidant substance which has antagonistic activity on platelet-activating factor. We aimed to investigate the antioxidant effect and the histopathologic changes caused by Gingko biloba on acetic acid-induced colitis. Methods: Totally 22 rats were divided into three groups. Group 1 (n=7) served as the control group. Group 2 (n=7) and Group 3 (n=8) were given 2 ml/day of 4% acetic acid by intracolonic instillation for three days. Gingko biloba (100 mg/kg) was then given only to Group 3 intraperitoneally for three days. Oxidative stress was assessed by determinate tissue and serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and colonic damage was assessed by histologic examination. Results: Depth of necrosis, extent of necrosis, degree of inflammation, extent of inflammation, fibrosis and total histologic scores in Group 2 were significantly higher than in the control group (p<0.05). The same parameters were lower in Group 3 versus Group 2, but the difference was not significant. Tissue and serum MDA levels in Group 2 were significantly higher than Group 1 (p<0.01 and 0.05, respectively). Again, the same parameters in Group 3 were lower than in Group 2, but the difference was not significant statistically. Conclusions: Gingko biloba did not significantly affect histopathological and oxidative stress parameters in experimental colitis.Öğe Efficacy of micronized flavonoid fraction in healing of clean and infected wounds(Springer New York, 2001) Hasanoglu A.; Ara C.; Ozen S.; Kali K.; Senol M.; Ertas E.Purified micronized flavonoid fraction, comprising 90% diosmin and 10% hesperidin, is basically used as a phelebotonic and vasculoprotector agent. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous actions. This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of micronized flavonoid fraction in clean and infectious wounds. Sixty Guinea pigs were separated into 2 main groups and 6 subgroups. The first three groups had clean wounds and the other three groups had infected wounds contaminated with S. aureus. Then these main groups were separated into 3 subgroups. The first subgroups was treated with 60 mg/kg/day micronized flavonoid fraction per oral, the second ones was treated with topical 60 mg/kg/day micronized flavonoid fraction, and the third ones had no treatment. Infected wounds were obtained by contamining the wounds with S. aureus. There were no significant differences in wound healing between the groups that have clean wounds (p > 0.05). In the groups with infected wounds, orally and topically treated guina pigs had accelerated wound healing compared to the untreated control group (p < 0.05), confirmed with surface area measurements and histopathological evaluation. Healing showed no difference between the groups treated orally and topically. This study showed that oral or topical administration of micronized flavonoid fraction in the infected wounds is beneficial, while it has no significant effect in clean wounds.Öğe Gastric perforation during chest tube placement for acute diaphragmatic rupture and review of the literature(Elsevier BV, 2006) Yilmaz M.; Isik B.; Ara C.; Yilmaz S.; Kutlu R.; Kocak O.; Ugras M.[No abstract available]Öğe A rare cause of abdominal pain; giant mesenteric lipoma(Surgical Society of Northern Greece, 2018) Ögüt M.Z.; Simsek A.; Kilci M.B.; Kocaaslan H.; Ara C.[No abstract available]Öğe Resective surgical approach to cases with hilar cholangiocarcinoma (results of 8 cases)(Turkish Surgical Society, 2003) Sö?ütlü G.; Cinpolat Ö.; Ara C.; Yilmaz S.; Kirimlio?lu V.; Canpolat M.; Deniz S.We aim to present the results of 8 patients with Klatskin tumor between January 1999-June 2001. Tumor resection was performed in 8 patients; 4 male and 4 female. Preoperative biliary drainage was performed in 6 patients. Palliative resection was done in 4 patients and curative resection in 4 patients. Right hemihepatectomy was done in 1 patient; in curative resection group. Local tumor resection was performed in 3 patients. 1 patient died in early postoperative period (12.5%). 1 year survival and 2 year survival rates are 75% and 50% in curative resection, 75% and 0% in palliative resection group respectively. Klatskin tumor has poor prognosis. Extensive locoregional tumor or metastatic involvement of liver tissue require major or limited liver resection on many occasion. Relief of symptoms such as obstructive jaundice and cholangitis could be achieved by surgical palliation when curative resection is impossible. Surgical palliation can also improve survival by relief of symptoms.Öğe Successful living donor liver transplantation of fulminant liver failure due to isoniazid prophylaxis(BMJ Publishing Group, 2015) Çakir T.; Ara C.; Soyer H.V.; Koc S.Progressive liver failure is rarely seen in tuberculosis chemoprophylaxis with isoniazid. We present a case of a 32-year-old woman admitted to our clinic reporting abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting for 2 days. The initial diagnosis was fulminant toxic hepatitis due to isoniazid chemoprophylaxis, which was treated successfully with living donor transplantation. Tuberculosis continues to be a significant public health problem. Isoniazid-related hepatotoxicity is extremely rare in adults. The only treatment in cases of fulminant liver failure is orthotopic liver transplantation from a deceased or living donor. If a deceased donor is not available or the patient refuses this treatment, living donor transplantation is the only choice. Although rare, isoniazid used as protective therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis can lead to fulminant liver failure. When cadaveric liver transplantation is not available, living donor liver transplantation is vital. © 2015 CrossMark.
