Öğe A case of fatal disseminated infection caused by mycobacterium bovis BCG strain and the identification of the isolate by spoligotyping(Ankara Microbiology Society, 2010) Aslan G.; Kuyucu N.; Aydin E.; Günal S.; Emekdaş G.The vaccine strain Mycobacterium bovis BCG may lead to disseminated infection in patients with immune deficiency. In this report a patient who developed fatal disseminated tuberculosis caused by M.bovis BCG strain was presented. One year old male patient with the previous history of recurrent lower respiratory tract infection, was admitted to the hospital with the complaints of fever, cough and diarrhea continuing for 20 days. There was no family history of tuberculosis or history of contact with a tuberculosis case. Physical examination of the case revealed growth retardation and reticular and reticulonodular infiltration was detected in his chest X-ray. The results of sweat test, cystic fibrosis gene mutation analysis and metabolic screening tests were normal. Since fever continued and infiltrations persisted in the chest X-ray despite antibiotic therapy, PPD test was applied and acid-fast bacilli (AFB) were investigated in his gastric aspirate and stool samples for three consecutive days. PPD test was negative and no AFB were detected in the microscopic examination of the clinical samples. However, growth in Lowens-tein-Jensen medium was detected in the stool sample on the 38 th day of incubation. The antimycobacterial susceptibility testing performed at BACTEC MGIT (Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube) 960 system (Becton-Dickinson, USA) revealed that the isolate was susceptible to rifampin, isoniazid, streptomicin and ethambutol. Since the isolates did not grow at PNB (para-nitro benzoic acid) medium and niacin and nitrate activities were negative, spoligotyping (spacer oligonucleotide typing) was performed and DR loci characteristic for M.bovis BCG strain were detected. However, the patient died 2 weeks before the culture results were obtained. The effective use of mycobacteriology laboratories and cooperation between laboratory and clinics provide advantages in the early diagnosis and treatment of tubercu-losis cases, decreasing the morbidity and the mortality.Öğe Doppler waveforms and blood flow parameters of the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries in patients having Behçet disease with and without gastrointestinal symptoms: Preliminary data(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2003) Si?irci A.; Şenol M.; Aydin E.; Kutlu R.; Alkan A.; Altinok M.T.; Yolo?lu S.Objective. To evaluate hemodynamic changes in mesenteric arteries in patients with Behçet disease with and without gastrointestinal symptoms. Methods. Doppler sonography of mesenteric arteries was performed in 25 symptomatic and 15 asymptomatic patients having Behçet disease and in 25 healthy control subjects. The peak systolic, minimal, and mean velocities, resistive and pulsatility indexes, inner diameter, cross-sectional area, and blood flow volume of mesenteric arteries were evaluated. The results were compared between patient groups and controls. Results. The mesenteric artery flow was significantly greater in patients in the symptomatic group than in those in the asymptomatic group or in controls. In the superior mesenteric artery, mean velocity and mean blood flow volume (0.35 ± 0.18 m/s and 711 ± 404 mL/min, respectively; P < .0001) in the symptomatic group were significant]y higher than in the asymptomatic group (0.16 ± 0.07 m/s and 305 ± 168 mL/min, respectively) or in controls (0.15 ± 0.07 m/s and 290 ± 123 mL/min, respectively). The mean peak systolic velocity (1.23 ± 0.47 m/s; P < .005) in the symptomatic group was significantly higher than in controls (0.93 ± 0.23 m/s). In the inferior mesenteric artery, mean velocity and mean blood flow volume (0.25 ± 0.10 m/s and 139 ± 79 mL/min) in the symptomatic group were significantly higher than in the asymptomatic group (0.16 ± 0.07 m/s; P < .006; and 78 ± 26 mL/min; P < .007) or in controls (0.17 ± 0.07 m/s; P < .003; 83 ± 48 mL/min; P < .004). Conclusions. In this study, symptomatic patients with gastrointestinal Behçet disease were associated with a significant increase in mesenteric artery flow that could be evaluated easily on spectral patterns of arteries during Doppler sonography. The Doppler sonographic findings also revealed that intestinal involvement in patients with Behçet disease without gastrointestinal symptoms is not significantly different from that of healthy controls.Öğe Hoyto–Tamır (Tayhar–Çuluu) inscriptions(Hacettepe University 1, 2017) Aydin E.The inscriptions known as Hoyto-Tamir or Tayhar-Çuluu inscriptions are located on a huge rock mass in central Mongolia. On the same rock mass are the inscriptions written in different alphabets such as Runic, Uighur, Sogd, Mongolian, Phags-pa, Tibetan and Arabic. Several studies have been conducted on the Runic texts initially published by W. Radloff in 1895. The present article consists of a new transcription of the texts written with Runic letters. The article also evaluates the previous studies of transcription on these texts, differences in these transcription are indicated with footnotes. There is a word index appended to the article. © 2017 Hacettepe University 1. Idiopathic CC cases have no underlying disease or pre-existing cause. Aim: A demostrative vulvar idiopathic CC case presentation and review of the related literature. Methods: A 42-year-old multiparous female presented with vulvar nodular masses. She was keen on surgical removal of the lesions, as the masses caused dyscomfort during sexual intercourse. The lesions were removed and sent for histopathological examination. There was neither a history of trauma nor any inflammatory process in the vulvar skin prior to the development of lesions and no systemic abnormality was detected. Results and Conclusions: The histhopathologic evaluation of the biopsy specimen showed amorphous calcium deposits without any inflammatory infiltration in the dermis. There was no recurrence at 1 year?s follow-up. This case shows that idiopathic CC may develop slowly at labio-vulvar region in a sexually active female with normal systemic or laboratory findings.Öğe On the name and titles of Tonyuquq(Hacettepe University 1, 2019) Aydin E.The Tonyuquq inscription is one of the most studied works since its discovery. The name of the proprietor Tonyuquq and the meaning expressed by this name have been discussed quite extensively. The name is read in two different forms in the form of Tonyuquq and Tunyuquq. The name of Tonyuquq was observed once in the inscription of Bilgä Qagan, and once in the inscription of Küli Çor. The lettering of Tonyuquq as a word is different in Bilgä Qagan and Küli Çor inscriptions and Tonyuquq inscription. The difference is based on whether it is written with the consonant ñ or using the letter n or y. One of the topics covered in the present article is about the scripture of the name of Tonyuquq in the inscription that bears his name and in Bilgä Qagan and Küli Çor inscriptions. Another issue covered in the article is the titles used by Tonyuquq and the meanings of these titles. After discussing the meanings of these titles in the general Turkish language, the subject is elaborated in detail. The article ends with a collection of the sentences where the name Tonyuquq was mentioned. © 2019 Hacettepe University 1. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The axial lengths of affected and fellow eyes of 19 patients with CRVO and 27 with BRVO and of their controls were measured with A-scan ultrasonography. The control group consisted of 17 individuals for CRVO and 25 for BRVO matched in age, sex and the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in patient groups. The results of measurements in affected, unaffected and control eyes were compared. RESULTS: The mean axial length was different among the affected and unaffected eyes in patients with CRVO and their controls (P < .05). The affected eyes had significantly shorter axial length compared to the fellow and control eyes (P < .01 and P < .01, respectively). In the BRVO group, the mean axial length did not differ among affected, unaffected and control eyes (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates a significantly shorter axial length in eyes with CRVO and not significantly shorter axial length in those with BRVO. The shorter axial length could be an additional risk factor in the pathogenesis of CRVO.Öğe A shamanistic exclamation in the yenisei inscriptions: Çök!(Harrassowitz Verlag, 2017) Aydin E.The shamanistic exclamation read as çök, possibly transliterated as çwk, was in all likelihood an exclamation during sacrificial rites. Inscribed into objects discovered in today's Tuva and Khakassia regions, a significant number of these Yenisei in-scriptions have been analysed to date, which provides the basis for a tentative inter-pretation in the present article. Here, the focus will be on a word which is mentioned in three Yenisei inscriptions and which has been interpreted in very different ways: çök. Repeated regularly during shamanistic rituals, it assumes the significance of the Abrahamic 'Amen!'. In order to confirm this assumption, its use in the contempo-rary Turkic rituals in southern Siberia will also be analysed. © 2017 Otto Harrassowitz GmbH. Co.KG. He also complained of headache, jaw claudication and weight loss for 4-5 months. His familial history and CT scan were normal but he had high ESR and CRP levels. His vision was no light perception (NLP) in both eyes and fundoscopy and FFA findings suggest right central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and posterior ciliary artery occlusion on left eye. Bilateral temporal artery biopsy was positive for temporal arteritis (TA). However, intravenous bolus methylprednisolone treatment was given to the patientin 72 h and after intravenous treatment oral prednisone was given to the patient. The vision impairment was not occur in 3 months. In older patient, TVL, headache, jaw claudication may show TA. Early diagnosis of TA may prevent total visual loss.
