Öğe Determination of operation parameters of a mineral processing study incorporating multiple regression analysis and multiobjective genetic algorithms(Grup Matbaacilik, 2009) Birinci M.; Kumral M.; Sarikaya M.The design of a mineral processing plant dictates to determine optimal system parameters such as impeller speed, temperature, pH, process duration, solid % in pulp. The paper proposes a combination of multiple regression modelling and the multiobjective genetic algorithms (GA) to find the optimal system parameters simultaneously. In this research, impeller speed, process duration and solid % in pulp are considered as independent variables for the beneficiation of Al2O3 in pyrophyllite ore. Grade and electricity consumption are dependant variables. The multiple regression analysis is performed to relate dependant and independent variables to each other. The obtained models are used in optimisation procedure as objective functions. The first objective is to maximise the Al2O3 grade and the second one is to minimise electricity consumption. This is a multiobjective optimization problem and is solved by GA. The results showed that the proposed approach could be used to determine operation parameters in a mineral processing plant.Öğe EFFECT OF ACTIVATION ON ALUMINUM RECOVERY FROM PYROPHYLLITE ORE BY ACID LEACHING(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2019) Uysal T.; Erdemo?lu M.; Birinci M.In this study, effect of activation conditions on the recovery of aluminum (Al) obtained by acid leaching from Pütürge (Malatya) pyrophyllite ore containing 23.6% Al2O3 was investigated. In this context, the initially non-activated ore and later activated ore samples using calcining and intensive milling were leached with HCl, separately. According to the experimental results, Al-recovery in the leachate for the raw, calcined and intensively milled ore samples were found to be 10.57%, 33.63% and 86.5%, respectively. It was also found that there was not sufficient dilation between the clay layers during calcination and the porous structure could not be obtained, also the new mineral phases which resist to dissolution in acidic media were formed at high temperatures. For this reason, the aluminum recovery of thermally activated ore was relatively low. However, it was confirmed that mechanical activation by intensive milling led to amorphization of clay minerals, and thus, the mechanical activation significantly improved the dissolution behavior of aluminum. As a result of this study, it is concluded that while Al recovery is slightly increased by thermal activation, it is dramatically increased by mechanical activation. © 2019 Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects of Turkey. It is a low-grade ore containing 27.43 % Fe which requires concentration to meet the specifications of blast furnace feeds. The main mineral composition of ore is magnetite and also contains magnesioferrite, ferro-actinolite and calcite minerals. The collected samples were classified into different size fractions after size reduction and then subjected to different gravimetric and magnetic separation methods for concentration. The results showed that particle sizes affected the concentrations to a large extent and generally cleaner concentrates were obtained at finer sizes for a certain separation method. On the other hand, wet magnetic separation yielded comparably better results than gravimetric methods. A concentrate assaying 65.66 % Fe and 0.38 % K2O+Na2O was obtained with 78.11 % recovery by wet magnetic separation. It was concluded that concentrates meeting blast furnace specifications could be obtained from this low-grade iron ore. It was also concluded that the proposed separation flow sheet can be applied to similar low-grade iron ores in the region. © 2021 Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects of Turkey. The raw coal (i.e. unwashed coal) and washed coal samples with different specific gravity, that they were obtained from sink-and-float test, were used in the extraction experiments. Each coal sample was individually leached in alkaline media prepared using NaOH and KOH. After undissolved residues were removed using a centrifuge, humic substance was precipitated by addition of concentrated hydrochloric acid, and than it was dried and weighed to determine the weight percentage of humate. California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) method was used for the extraction of humates. Finally, influence of coal washing on the humate extraction was discussed by comparing the weight percentage of humates for unwashed (raw coal) and washed coal samples. According to results, the highest percentage of potassium humate was around 8- 9% and for 14-15% for unwashed and washed coal with a specific gravity of 1.5-1.6, respectively. It has been indicated that coal washing has a positive effect on the humate extraction. Copyright © IMCET 2019 International Mining Congress and Exhibition of Turkey. All rights reserved.
