The Document Analysis Technique, which is a qualitative research method, was used in the study. The study sample consisted of 691 students in the 11 - 12 age group who were enrolled in 20 schools in nine cities in different geographical regions of Turkey. According to the obtained findings, nine themes were identified in the pictures. The study data were analyzed by calculating the frequencies and percentages of each theme identified in the drawings. Then, the data were presented in tables. As a result, it was revealed that students perceived physical education classes as a course in which few sports branches were constantly repeated, the relevant basic techniques were taught, sports perception and athletic performance were prioritized. It is also perceived as a course where male students and students without mental/physical disabilities dominate, and which is performed outdoors, related with natural environment elements and give pleasure as well.Öğe Evaluating the impact of rock climbing on mental health and emotional well-being in adolescents(Frontiers Media Sa, 2024) Gurer, Huseyin; Akcinar, Faruk; Arslan, Semiha Comertoglu; Akcinar, Serpil; Gullu, Mehmet; Eken, Ozgur; Kurtoglu, AhmetBackground: Rock climbing (RC) has gained attention as a therapeutic tool in psychiatric settings that merges physical exertion with mental engagement. It has potential to enhance mental health, through improved self-efficacy and social interaction, making it a novel intervention for addressing anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues in adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the effects of RC as a physical activity on anxiety, depression, and emotional and behavioral problems in adolescents. Methods: The current study included 57 athletes aged 14.5 +/- 1.7years and 91 adolescents aged 13.6 +/- 1.2years, matched for age and gender, who were not professionally involved in sport. In addition to the socio-demographic form, a detailed psychiatric assessment was carried out by the child psychiatrist; using the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL) to detect psychiatric conditions. The Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale-Child Version (RCADS-CV) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) were also administered to the adolescents in the study. Results: In the comparative analysis of the RCADS-CV outcomes between the athlete and control groups, the athletes demonstrated notably lower scores for both Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), yielding p-values of < 0.001 and 0.031, respectively. Although the mean scores for social phobia, OCD, panic disorder, and MDD were lower in the athlete group, the differences were not statistically significant (p>0.05). In the correlation analysis, a moderately significant correlation was found between the duration of doing sport and the scale scores for SAD (p:0.010), OCD (p:0.014), and panic disorder (p:0.016). There was no significant difference between groups in terms of SDQ scores. Conclusion: These results suggest that RC, through its unique combination of physical exertion and mental focus, may offer protective benefits against certain anxiety disorders among adolescents. Further studies should be conducted to explore the potential use of RC as a preventive program for both healthy adolescents, as well as those with psychiatric disorder.Öğe Job-finding anxiety and burnout among university students in Türkiye: The mediating role of school alienation and the moderating role of gender(Tech Science Press, 2025) Aslan, Murat; Ugras, Sinan; Ates, Fatih; Akarsu, Mehmet; Akbuga, Taylan; Gullu, Mehmet; Mergan, BarisAlthough prior studies have examined job-finding anxiety, burnout, and school alienation individually, limited research has attempted to integrate these three constructs within a unified framework. This conceptual and contextual gap underscores the need to investigate these interrelations simultaneously, particularly among university students navigating heightened career uncertainties. The present study examined the mediating role of school alienation and the moderating role of gender in the relationship between university students' levels of job-finding anxiety and burnout. A total of 426 university students participated in the study, of whom 54.9% were male (n = 234) and 45.1% were female (n = 192) (Meanage = 23.00, SD = 2.34). The data were collected using the Sports Sciences Students' Job-Finding Anxiety Scale, the University Alienation Scale, and The Burnout Syndrome Inventory Short Version. To test for mediation effects, a simple mediation analysis was conducted, in which job-finding anxiety was treated as the independent variable, alienation as the mediator, and burnout as the dependent variable. Additionally, a conditional mediation analysis was carried out using the Generalized Linear Model module in Jamovi, with gender included as a moderator. Results from a conditional mediation analysis revealed significant positive relationships between job-finding anxiety, burnout, and school alienation among students in the faculty of sports sciences. Furthermore, school alienation was found to mediate the relationship between job-finding anxiety and burnout by transmitting a positive effect (higher job-finding anxiety -+/- higher school alienation -+/- higher burnout), and gender played a moderating role in this interaction such that the indirect path (jobfinding anxiety -+/- alienation -+/- burnout) was slightly stronger for women, whereas the direct path (job-finding anxiety -+/- burnout) was stronger for men. The results of the study were consistent with Conservation of Resources Theory (COR) because job-finding anxiety signals a threat to future resources, school alienation indicates reduced social and personal resources in the university context, and burnout reflects the consequences of continued resource loss. According to the findings, an increase in job-finding anxiety corresponds with a rise in burnout levels among students. The findings highlight the importance of fostering a sense of belonging and implementing gender-sensitive support programs in student counselling and development to reduce job-finding anxiety and burnout.Öğe The opinions of physical education teachers about the prevalence of obesity and nutrition problem in schools(Mattioli 1885, 2020) Ugras, Sinan; Sagin, Ahmet Enes; Gullu, MehmetPurpose: In this study, it has been aimed to examine the opinions of physical education teachers about obesity and nutrition, which is a growing public health problem. Methods: 13 physical education teachers selected with maximum diversity sampling for the study constituted the sample of the study. Individual interviews were conducted by using semi-structured questionnaires in the research. As a result of the content analysis of the raw data obtained from the semi-structured interview forms, four themes were obtained. Results: These four themes are The current state of obesity in schools and the view of physical education teachers in nutrition and obesity, Obesity Victim Students reflection on Physical Education lesson, Studies carried out at school and the struggle of physical education teachers with malnutrition and obesity, The necessity of having a nutrition lesson in the curriculum. The Future of Nutrition and Obesity Conclusions: As a result of the research, it has been revealed that Physical Education teachers can play a role in the prevention of obesity and nutrition. However, it was concluded that physical education teachers did not have a planned and programmed strategy to prevent and reduce obesity. The Physical Education teachers who participated in the research stated that the nutrition issues were not sufficiently included in the curriculum and they suggested that they could be taught as a separate lesson.Öğe Surveying the relationships between the goal orientations of the students sporting as team sport and individualistically and the level of their basic psychologic needs at the school of physical education and sports(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Tekin, Murat; Yildiz, Mustafa; Sahan, Hasan; Devecioglu, Sebahattin; Gullu, Mehmet; Ulucan, BuketThe aim of this study is surveying the relationships between the goal orientations of the students sporting as team sport and individualistically and the level of their basic psychologic needs at the school of physical education and sports. 126 male and 83 femal in total 209 students sporting actively at the schools of Physical Education and Sports of Gazi University, Selcuk University, Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University and Ataturk University attended the survey (average of age is 22.3971 +/- 1.75 years). Firstly, the present data concerning the aim of the study has been given systematically by reviewing the literature. Thus, a theoretical framework has been formed. Secondly, Scale of Task and Ego Orientation of Sports developed by Duda (1989) and adapted to Turkish athletes by Toros (2001) and Basic Psychological Needs Scale Decive Ryan (2000) adapted to Turkish by Kesici, Ure et al. (2003) have been applied to the students to achieve the objectives of the research. In the analysis and commenting the data; by using the pearson product moment correlation statistical technique, P<0,05 significance has been taken. SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences) has been used in the evaluation of the data and finding the estimated values. In the result of this research, a significance relationship was found between the task and ego orientations and self determination and competence and level of relationships of the students sporting as team sport. According to these results, the success level of the students sporting as team sport about their competence and self determination decides that they contribute positively the evaluations regarding how good the individual's daytime will be. The findings in this study were parallel with the current study. There has been no significant relationship between the self determination and competence levels of the students sporting as individualistically, a significant relationship has been found between the relationship levels. These results reveal that ego-oriented sportsmen focus on external criteria to indicate achievement and believe the importance of opportunities and social comparisons as the achievement criteria and the conclusion that these behaviours are more important for ego-oriented sportsmen than perceived abilities, intense work and effort.Öğe The Mediating Role of Physical Literacy in the Relationship Between e-Health Literacy and a Sustainable Healthy Lifestyle Among Adolescents(Mdpi, 2025) Akarsu, Mehmet; Gullu, Mehmet; Gunata, Gul Polat; Kizilkaya, Aysel; Aydin, Savas; Ozcan, Ecesu; Norman, GoktugBackground: It is well-established that, for adolescents to adopt sustainable healthy lifestyle behaviors, not only access to information but also the skills required to translate that information into action are critical. In this field, research that examines the relationship between e-health literacy and sustainable healthy lifestyle behaviors within the context of physical literacy is notably scarce. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the effect of e-health literacy on a sustainable healthy lifestyle and to evaluate the mediating role of physical literacy in this relationship. Methods: A total of 835 adolescents from high schools across T & uuml;rkiye voluntarily participated in this study. During the data collection process, the e-Health Literacy Scale, the Perceived Physical Literacy Scale, and the Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle Scale were utilized. Data were analyzed using the JASP (version 0.18.3.0) software. Correlation analysis and structural equation modeling were conducted, and the bootstrap method (n = 5000) was employed for mediation analysis. Results: The effect of e-health literacy on a sustainable healthy lifestyle was found to be positive and statistically significant (beta = 0.452, p < 0.001). Similarly, e-health literacy significantly predicted physical literacy (beta = 0.755, p < 0.001), and physical literacy significantly predicted a sustainable healthy lifestyle (beta = 0.310, p < 0.001). The mediating effect was also statistically significant (beta = 0.234, p < 0.001). The model explained 32% of the variance in healthy lifestyle behaviors. Conclusions: The findings indicate that evaluating e-health literacy and physical literacy together provides a holistic approach to fostering sustainable healthy lifestyle habits among adolescents. It is recommended that intervention programs be structured to encompass both areas of competence.
