Öğe AIDS awareness and knowledge among married women living in Malatya (Turkey): Implications for province-based prevention programs(2005) Genc M.; Gunes G.; Karaoglu L.; Egri M.The study was performed in 2003 to obtain baseline information on married women's knowledge of AIDS/HIV in Malatya, Turkey. The aim was to reach 1% of the population by covering 1200 married women out of 120,034 whose ages ranged from 15-49. Stratified systematic random sampling was used according to 17 health center lists. Although median HIV/AIDS knowledge score was found to be 70 (highest score was 100), it was also seen that clinical properties of the disease were not recognized adequately. The main resources of knowledge were visual (93%) and printed material (35%). These findings show that media based information does not seem to be sufficient. Therefore, it is recommended that health education should be inserted in the school curriculum and health personnel should inform the women.Öğe The humoral immun response of mice to liposomes containing Brucella melitensis outer membrane fragments(2008) Onurdag F.K.; Degim T.; De?im Z.; Kutlu I.; Kaynar O.; Gunes G.; Abbasoglu U.Brucellosis is an important zoonotic disease and the prevention is made by vaccination of animals. For ewes Brucella melitensis REV-1 live attenuated vaccine is widely used but because of some risks such as being infected during the vaccination, re-infection of animals, a new vaccine with less side effect is need to be improved. In this study it was aimed to determine a strong humoral immune response by encapsulating the Brucella outer membrane antigens with the optimum liposome formulation and the statistical analyses showed that the Brucella outer membrane extract encapsulated with liposome can evoke humoral immune response better than live attenuated B. melitensis REV-1 vaccine in mice. © Medwell Journals, 2008.
