Öğe Comparison of itraconazole and terbinafine in the treatment of superficial dermatophyte infections(1995) Hazneci E.; Oram Y.; Yologlu S.Background and design. - In recent years, itraconazole and terbinafine have been widely used in the treatment of superficial fungal diseases. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy and side effects of these 2 agents. Seventy eight patients with superficial dermatophyte infection, were given either itraconazol (100 mg/d) or terbinafine (250 mg/d) for two weeks. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated by KOH examination at 30th, 60th and 90th day after cessation of the drug. Side effect profile was decided with patients' complaints and laboratory examinations. Results. - At the end of the study 30 of 39 patients in the itraconazole group and 31 of 39 patients in the terbinafine group, completed the study. There was no statistical difference between the two treatment groups regarding the efficacy of the treatment. Conclusion. - None of the patients described any subjective side effects and all laboratory examination results were either negative or normal. Itraconazole and terbinafine were found to be equally effective in superficial dermatophyte infections.Öğe Lupus vulgaris in a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis(1994) Tecimer C.; Oram Y.; Tecimer T.A fifty-three-year-old woman with pulmonary tuberculosis in association with lupus vulgaris is reported. Her condition had been misdiagnosed for several years; the need for early diagnosis of tuberculosis is emphasized again.Öğe Three cases of verrucous carcinoma(Blackwell Publishing, 1998) Dogan G.; Oram Y.; Hazneci E.; Özen S.; Karincao?lu Y.; Çiralik H.Verrucous carcinoma of the skin and mucosa is an uncommon clinicopathological variant of low grade squamous cell carcinoma. Here, we present three different clinical types of verrucous carcinoma. The first patient presented with an anogenital verrucous carcinoma, also known as Buschke-Loewenstein tumour. The second patient had verrucous carcinoma of the heel with endophytic growth (i.e. epithelioma cuniculatum) and the third patient had gluteal verrucous carcinoma with a cauliflower-like appearance. Clinically, the lesion of the first patient best resembled giant condyloma accuminatum without any prominent verrucous component, whereas the second patient showed a big deep ulcer on the heel. None of the patients had metastasis. The diagnosis was confirmed with biopsy and total excision was performed in all cases. Although the cases have different clinical presentations in different locations, we think that they should be considered as a single entity; that is, verrucous carcinoma.Öğe Two cases of acrokeratoelastoidosis: Failure of acitretin treatment(1996) Dogan G.; Oram Y.; Hazneci E.; Muezzinoglu B.; Aydin A.Acrokeratoelastoidosis (AKE) is a rare distinguished clinical entity among other papular acrokeratodermas. It is characterized by smooth shiny papules on the hands and feet. We present two unrelated cases of AKE with typical clinical and histologic findings. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed with histopathologic findings, particularly, fragmentation and rarefaction of elastic fibers in the dermis. In the treatment of AKE, 3 months of acitretin administration (0.5 mg/kg/d) was found ineffective. Its treatment is still unsatisfactory and needs further therapeutic trials.
