Öğe Beneficial effects of chrysin on the reproductive system of adult male rats(Wiley, 2012) Ciftci, O.; Ozdemir, I.; Aydin, M.; Beytur, A.In this study, the beneficial effect of chrysin, a natural flavonoid currently under investigation due to its important biological activities, on reproductive system of rats was investigated. Rats (n = 16) were divided randomly into two equal groups. Rats in control group were given corn oil as carrier. Chrysin was orally administered at the dose of 50 mg kg-1 per day by gavages, and it was dissolved in corn oil for 60 days. Tissue thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and glutathione (GSH) levels, antioxidant enzyme activity (CAT, SOD and GSH-Px), sperm parameters (motility, concentration and abnormal sperm rate), reproductive organ weight (testes, epididymis, vesicula seminalis, prostate) and serum testosterone levels were determined in the rats. Our results indicated that chrysin significantly increased GSH, CAT, GSH-Px and CuZn-SOD levels, but did not change the formation of TBARS significantly. In addition, sperm motility, sperm concentration and serum testosterone levels significantly increased, whereas abnormal sperm rate significantly decreased with chrysin treatment. In conclusion, it is suggested that treatment with chrysin can positively affect the reproductive system in rats, and it can be used for the treatment of male infertility.Öğe Copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) under mild condition in water: Synthesis, catalytic application and biological activities(Elsevier Science Sa, 2017) Touj, N.; Chakchouk-Mtibaa, A.; Mansour, L.; Harrath, A. H.; Al-Tamimi, J. H.; Ozdemir, I.; Mellouli, L.A series of Cu-N-heterocyclic carbene (Cu-NHC) complexes, 3a-c, were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods such as NMR, HRMS and elemental analysis. Aslan; Karadag, A.; Korkmaz, N.; Andac, O.; Gurbuz, N.; Ozdemir, I.; Topkaya, R.Five cyanide complexes, [Ni(N-bishydeten)Pd(CN)(4)] (1), [Cu(N-bishydeten)Pd(-CN)(2)(CN)(2)](n) (2), [Cu(N-bishydeten)(2)][Pd(CN)(4)] (3), [Zn(N-bishydeten)Pd(CN)(4)] (4), and [Cd(N-bishydeten)(2)][Pd(CN)(4)] (5) (N-bishydeten = N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine), have been synthesized and characterized using various techniques. Different structures were formed when the M:L ratio was varied in copper complexes. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 2, a 1-D cyanide-bridged complex with 2,2-CT-type zigzag chain, was obtained by using 1:1M:L ratio whereas 3 was formed as a complex salt in a molar ratio of 1:2. The thermal stabilities determined from DTG(max) values of the first decomposition stages change in the order 1>5>4>3>2. Although an EPR signal was not observed for 1, the g parameters obtained from the EPR spectra of 2 and 3 indicate that Cu-II ions are located in tetragonally distorted octahedral sites (D-4h), and the ground state of the unpaired electron is (B-2(1g)). The magnetic behavior indicates a very small antiferromagnetic interaction below 10K for 1-3. In 3, there is a temperature-independent paramagnetism () due to the orbital moments of the d electrons. 1-3 were tested as catalysts in Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions.Öğe AN IMIDAZOLIDIN-2-YLIDENE-BASED Pd-PEPPSI COMPLEX: AN EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL APPROACH(Pleiades Publishing Inc, 2023) Ozdemir, N.; Kaloglu, M.; Ozdemir, I.A PEPPSI-type imidazolidin-2-ylidene-based palladium(II) complex was prepared according to literature. A.; Al-Tamimi, J.; Ozdemir, I.; Yasar, S.The carbonylative Suzuki cross-coupling of 2-bromopyridine with various boronic acids to prepare unsymmetrical arylpyridine ketones has been carried out using palladium/N-heterocyclic carbene complexes as catalysts prepared in situ. The selectivity and the rate of these reactions are highly dependent on the conditions, i.e., nature of the palladium catalyst precursor, solvent, temperature and CO pressure. The main side-products arise from direct, non-carbonylative cross-coupling. Under the optimum conditions, arylpyridine ketones are recovered in high yields (60-88%). The antibacterial activities of the corresponding benzimidazole salts 2 were tested against Gram positive and negative bacteria using the agar dilution procedure, and their IC50 values have been determined.Öğe [Mn(CO)3(bpy)(N-2-chlorobenzylbenzimidazole)] OTf complex as a new photoactivatable CO-releasing molecule(Bulgarian Acad Science, 2017) Ustun, E.; Dusunceli, S. Blood was taken from the anaesthetized rats ventricle from their hearts for biochemical analysis. Administration of DMBA resulted in elevation of urea, uric acid and creatinine levels as well as AST, ALT and LDH activities and decrease in levels of total proteins, albumin and globulin. Set and Sell caused I significant (p<0.05) decrease ill Urea, uric acid and creatinine levels and alanine aminotransferase (ALT); aspartate aminotransferase; (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities and significantly increased the levels of total protein and albumin (p<0.05). These organoselenium compounds are likely to be beneficial in human health.Öğe Mono- and dinuclear Pd(II) complexes of different salicylaldimine ligands as catalysts of transfer hydrogenation of nitrobenzene with cyclohexene and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions(Elsevier Science Sa, 2009) Tas, E.; Kilic, A.; Durgun, M.; Yilmaz, I.; Ozdemir, I.; Gurbuz, N.In this study, the synthesis, spectroscopic, catalytic, and electrochemical properties of salicylaldimine Schiff-base ligands (L-n) and their dinuclear Pd(II) complexes for L-1 and L-2 ligands with mononuclear Pd(II) complexes for L-3 and L-4 ligands were investigated. The ligands and their mono- or dinuclear Pd(II) complexes were characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, H-1 NMR and elemental analysis, as well as through magnetic susceptibility and spectroelectrochemical techniques. The catalytic studies showed that the introduction of tert butyl groups on the salicyl ring of the molecules increased the catalytic activity towards hydrogenation of nitrobenzene and cyclohexene in DMF at 25 and 45 degrees C. It was also observed that the steric hindered mono- and dinuclear Pd( II) complexes were thermally stable complexes and were not sensitive to air or the moisture. The complexes were easily prepared from cheap materials that could be used as versatile and efficient catalysts for different C-C coupling reactions (Suzuki-Miyaura reactions). (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. These benzimidazolium salts were then converted into the corresponding Pd-NHC complexes of the PEPPSI family (PEPPSI = pyridine-enhanced precatalyst preparation, stabilization, and initiation) 3a-g. The structures of all compounds were characterized by H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, C-13 NMR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis, which support the proposed structures. The structure of the 3c complex was determined by X-ray crystallography. More detailed structural characterization of the 3c complex was performed through single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which supports the proposed structures. The Pd-NHC-PEPPSI complexes were used as catalysts in the direct C-5-arylation of 2-acetyl furan, 2-acetylthiophene, and 2n-propylthiazole with different aryl bromides. These complexes exhibited moderate-to-high catalytic activities and selectively at the C-5 position. Furthermore, the Pd-NHC-PEPPSI complexes were evaluated for their potential antibacterial properties against a panel of bacterial strains, such as Micrococcus luteus, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The Pd-NHC-PEPPSI complex 3f showed better activity than ampicillin against Micrococcus luteus, with an MIC of 0.035 mg mL(-1). In addition, the antioxidant activities of the complexes 3d and 3f showed considerable free radical scavenging activity.Öğe N-Heterocyclic carbene-Pd(II)-PPh3 complexes as a new highly efficient catalyst system for the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction: Synthesis, characterization and biological activities(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2018) Boubakri, L.; Mansour, L.; Harrath, A. H.; Ozdemir, I.; Yasar, S.; Hamdi, N.A novel series of N-heterocyclic carbene-phosphine palladium(II) complexes has been synthesized and fully characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and P-31 NMR spectroscopies, and elemental analysis. The new N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-phosphine palladium(II) complexes 3a-h have been easily prepared by the reaction of the corresponding PEPPSI (pyridine-enhanced precatalyst preparation stabilization and initiation) complexes 2a-h and triphenylphosphine in dichloromethane in high yields. These complexes were applied as catalyst precursors which efficiently catalyzed Sonogashira reactions between aryl bromides and phenylacetylene to afford the corresponding products in good yields. The bulky NHC-Pd-PPh3 complexes 3 were tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria to study their biological activity. All the complexes exhibit antibacterial against these organisms. Investigation of the antiacetylcholinesterase activity of the studied complexes showed that compounds 3a and 3b exhibited moderate activity at 100 mu g mL-1 and product 3b is the most active.Öğe Quercetin prevents 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin-induced testicular damage in rats(Wiley, 2012) Ciftci, O.; Aydin, M.; Ozdemir, I.; Vardi, N.The protective effect of quercetin on 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)-induced testicular damage in rats was investigated. Twenty-two rats were equally divided into four groups; first group was kept as control and given corn oil as carrier. In second group, TCDD was orally administered at the dose of 2 mu (kg week)-1 for 60 days. In third group, quercetin was orally administered at the dose of 20 mg (kg day)-1 by gavages, and in fourth group TCDD and quercetin were given together at the same doses. Although TCDD increased the formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) significantly, it caused a significant decline in the levels of glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), GSH-Px and CuZn-Superoxide Dismutase (CuZn-SOD) in rats. In contrast, quercetin significantly increased the GSH, CAT, GSH-Px and CuZn-SOD levels but decreased the formation of TBARS. In addition, sperm motility, sperm concentration and serum testosterone levels were significantly decreased but abnormal sperm rate and testicular damage were increased with TCDD treatment. However, these effects of TCDD on sperm parameters, histological changes and hormone levels were eliminated by quercetin treatment. Our results show that administration of TCDD induces testicular damage (oxidative stress, testes tissue damage, serum hormone level and sperm parameters), and quercetin prevents TCDD-induced testicular damage in rats. Thus, quercetin may be useful for the prevention and treatment of TCDD-induced testicular damage.Öğe Role of exogenous melatonin on adriamycin-induced changes in the rat heart(Verduci Publisher, 2010) Aydemir, S.; Ozdemir, I.; Kart, A.Aim: The protective effect of melatonin on adriamycin (ADM)-induced cardiotoxicity was investigated in the rat heart. Melatonin is a pineal hormone with free radical scavenging activity on oxidants; therefore it may decrease the ADM-induced oxidative stress and cardiotoxicity so that therapeutic efficacy might be enhanced. Materials and Methods: Wistar rats in 4 groups were treated with saline (control), melatonin (MEL), adriamycin (ADM) and melatonin plus adriamycin (MEL+ADM). Results: Adriamycin given at a single dose of 15 mg/kg significantly increased lipid peroxidation products as measured by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Melatonin (5 mg/kg bw) given 2 days before and 7 days after ADM treatment reduced TBARS level. Adriamycin significantly reduced superoxide dismutase activity which was elevated by melatonin treatment. Additionally, ADM significantly increased catalase enzyme activity while melatonin normalized the ADM induced alteration in activity of catalase. Conclusions: The combined use of ADM and melatonin reduces the threat of cardiomyopathy. Melatonin seems to hold promise as a therapeutic treatment and can be recommended as an adjunct in antitumor therapy as a safe and effective protection against acute ADM-induced cardiotoxicity.Öğe Synthesis and catalytic applications of palladium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes as efficient pre-catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura and Sonogashira coupling reactions(Royal Soc Chemistry, 2017) Boubakri, L.; Yasar, S.; Dorcet, V.; Roisnel, T.; Bruneau, C.; Hamdi, N.; Ozdemir, I.A new palladium complex series with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), pyridine and phosphine ligands, PdCl2(L)NHC (2a-c)(L = NHC), PdCl2(L-1)NHC(3a-c)(L-1 = pyridine), PdCl2(L-2)NHC(4a-c)(L-2 = triphenyl-phosphine) was synthesised and fully characterized. The catalytic activities of these complexes were screened for the Sonogashira and Suzuki-Miyaura reactions between arylhalides and phenylacetylene, and phenylboronic acid, respectively. The results pointed out that the carbene/phosphine complexes 4a-c exhibited excellent catalytic activities as compared to 2a-c, 3a-c, and the well-known systems for the palladium-catalysed Sonogashira reaction. The reactivity of 4a-c in these preliminary Sonogashira coupling tests seems to be higher than that of previously reported catalytic systems based on Pd(NHC) moieties. These new palladium NHC complexes are among the first reported palladium catalysts that are efficient for catalysing the Sonogashira reaction from arylchloride substrates.Öğe Synthesis of novel Ag(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes soluble in both water and dichloromethane and their antimicrobial studies(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2019) Boubakri, Lamia; Dridi, Khaireddine; Al-Ayed, Abdullah Sulaiman; Ozdemir, I.; Yasar, S.; Hamdi, NaceurThe interaction of the benzimidazolium salt with Ag2O in dichloromethane to prepare novel Ag(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes has been carried out at room temperature for 48 h in the absence of light. The obtained complexes were identified and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis techniques. In addition, it has been found that some of the complexes are antimicrobially active and show higher activity than the free ligand. Probably metal chelation affects significantly the antimicrobial behavior of the ligands. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the complexes was determined. The results indicated that these complexes exhibit antimicrobial activity.Öğe Synthesis, characterization, and transfer hydrogenation of Ru(II)-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2014) Yasar, S.; Cekirdek, S.; Ozdemir, I.A new series of ruthenium(II) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes [RuL1,2,3(p-cymene)Cl-2] (3a-c) (where L is a N-heterocyclic carbene), have been synthesized via transmetalation. The new ruthenium( II)-NHC complexes were applied to transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone derivatives and aldehydes using 2-propanol as a hydrogen source and KOH as a co-catalyst. The results show that the corresponding alcohols could be obtained in good yield with high catalyst activity (up to 100%) under mild conditions. [RuL1(p-cymene)Cl-2] (3a) is much more active than the other complexes in transfer hydrogenation. Reactions, catalyzed by 3a-c, showed the highest reaction rates and yields of alcohol when the substrates bear more electron-withdrawing substituents. All new compounds were characterized by IR, elemental analysis, LC-MS (ESI), and NMR spectroscopy.
