Öğe The effect of gastric Helicobacter pylori eradication on recurrent aphthous stomatitis(Wiley, 2008) Karaca, Semsettin; Seyhan, Muammer; Senol, Mustafa; Harputluoglu, M. Muhip; Ozcan, AtillaBackground Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has been suggested to be associated with recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) as well as many other diseases. Methods We conducted a prospective study on a total of 23 patients with RAS to investigate the relationship between H. pylori and RAS as well as the effect of eradication therapy on the recurrence. All patients underwent endoscopic examination and gastric biopsy. The biopsy materials were examined histopathologically whether they contained H. pylori or not. The density of H. pylori was also noted. The patients with H. pylori infection were followed up for up to 1 year after starting the eradication therapy. Results Gastric mucosal H. pylori colonization was (+) in 39%, (++) in 39%, (+++) in 9%, and (-) in 13% of the patients, respectively. There were statistically significant decreases in the recurrence rate and amelioration time of RAS by eradication therapy. There were no significant correlations among the intensity of H. pylori with the recurrence rate, number, diameter, and amelioration time of the lesions in 1-year follow-up. Conclusions We concluded that eradication of H. pylori may have reducing effects on the recurrence and amelioration period of the RAS.Öğe Effect of hemostatic agent Ankaferd on growth factors and hydroxyproline which play a role in wound healing(Bilimsel Tip Yayinevi, 2015) Sezgin, Sevgi; Sarac, Gulbahar; Turkoz, Yusuf; Senol, MustafaObjective: There have been a lot of topical and systemic agents to provide an ideal scar formation and decrease the periods of wound healing process by affecting the factors of healing (inflammatory cells, thrombocytes, extracellular matrix etc.). Ankaferd is an extract used as a hemostatic agent which is prepared in certain ratios of five herbal contents which are used in traditional Turkish medicine. In our study, we observed the effects of Ankaferd on wound healing. Materials and Methods: So that, the wounds were created with 8 mm punch biopsy on the back of 36 rats which were seperated into 4 groups of 9 rats. No treatment was done in Group D which is the control group while Group A took topical Ankaferd treatment twice a day, Group B treated with silver sulfadiazine twice a day, and Group C put on base cream twice a day which did not include any active agent. The rats were followed for 15 days macroscopically on 0, 3, 7 ve 15th days by taking biopsies and the levels of hydroxyproline, epidermal growth factor (EGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) were analysed from the tissue. Results: Th ere were no significiant differences by means of EGF and PDGF levels between the all groups. The only significiantly lower growth factor was VEGF in the silver sulfadiazine group. The wound healing process was determined faster in silver sulfadiazine and Ankaferd groups. There was no significiant difference in hydroxyproline levels between these groups and the hydroxyproline levels were significiantly higher in control group. At the end of our study, it was detected that Ankaferd accelerated the healing process similar to silver sulfadiazin, in comparison to control and base cream groups according to the macroscopic results.Öğe The effects of Ankaferd, a hemostatic agent, on wound healing(Deri Zuhrevi Hastaliklar Dernegi, 2015) Sezgin, Sevgi Ozbaysar; Sarac, Gulbahar Ceylan; Samdanci, Emine; Senol, MustafaBackground and Design: There have been a lot of topical and systemic agents to provide an ideal scar formation and to decrease the periods of wound healing process by affecting the factors of healing (inflammatory cells, thrombocytes, extracellular matrix etc.). In this study, we investigated the effects of Ankaferd on wound healing. Materials and Methods: Wounds were created with 8 mm punch biopsy knots on the back of 32 rats which were separated into 4 groups of 9 rats. No treatment was done in group D which was the control group while group A received topical Ankaferd treatment twice a day; group B treated with silver sulfadiazine twice a day, and group C put on base cream, which did not include any active agent, twice a day. The rats were followed for 15 days macroscopically and examined histopathologically on days 0., 3., 7., and 15. by taking biopsy specimens. Result: At the end of our study, it was detected that Ankaferd accelerated the healing process in comparison to control and base cream groups according to the macroscopic and histopathologic results. Additionally, similar to this situation, it was observed that the healing process in silver sulfadiazine group was faster than in control and base cream groups. Conclusion: More experimental and clinical studies in larger populations are needed to prove and confirm its efficacy.Öğe An Epidermolysis Bullosa Patient Complicated with Chronic Renal Failure(Galenos Yayincilik, 2013) Ulutas, Ozkan; Taskapan, Hulya; Sari, Funda; Senol, MustafaA 32-yr-old man with epidermolysis bullosa presented with clinical and laboratory findings of chronic renal failure. The patient was supposed to be suffering from mesangial IgA glomerulonephritis in view of the repeated persistent macroscopic episodes of hematuria and raised serum IgA levels, especially polimeric IgA. Because continuous vascular access could not be established, the patient died due to uremia and sepsis. Renal complications are associated with life-threatening problems in this inherited mechanobullous disease because it is impossible to obtain a continuous vascular access or a continuous peritoneal access. The possibility of IgA nephropathy should be considered in patients with epidermolysis bullosa. They should be periodically set up screened for IgA levels and hematuria.Öğe Intertriginous plasmacytosis with plasmoacanthoma: report of a typical case and review of the literature(Blackwell Publishing, 2008) Senol, Mustafa; Ozcan, Atilla; Aydin, N. Engin; Hazneci, Ersoy; Turan, NergizClinical manifestations of benign (reactive) plasma cell proliferations of the skin and mucosa consist of a relatively rare and distinct group in dermatologic disorders. They have generally been named according to their localization. We report a typical case of mucocutaneous plasmacytosis located on intertriginous areas of the skin as well as mucosa with a perianal tumoral mass diagnosed as plasmoacanthoma. To our knowledge, this is the first detailed case report, at least in English literature.Öğe Kaposi's varicelliform eruption complicating irritant contact dermatitis(Professional Medical Publications, 2012) Sener, Serpil; Bayram, Hatice Gamze; Karincaoglu, Yelda; Senol, MustafaKaposi's varicelliform eruption (KVE) or eczema herpeticum is a disseminated viral infection superimposed on pre-existing dermatosis. It is frequently caused by Herpes simplex and certain other viruses. It may result on life-threatening viraemia with multiorgan involvement and secondary infections. We report a 34-year old female patient with KVE which is caused by herpes virus developed on irritant contact dermatitis because of its rare occurrence.
