Öğe Correlation between the parenthood self-efficacy of pregnant women and their prenatal adaptations in a middle-income country(Springer Heidelberg, 2018) Yildirim, Hilal; Erci, BehiceAimThe purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between pregnant women's parenthood self-efficacy and their prenatal adaptations in a middle-income country by using a descriptive correlational research method. Objectives and methodsThe subjects of the study comprised 220 women in the last trimester of their pregnancy. Each woman had one or more children aged between 1 and 3years and received health care from one of the ten community health centres in Turkey where this study took place. The researcher did not use sampling because the purpose of the study was to include the entire population of pregnant women from these community health centres. Eventually, 212 of the 220 women participated in the study and the researcher reached 95% of the population. The data were collected from the participants when they visited the community health centres between 25 July 2014 and 1 December 2014. The data analysis used correlation and regression analysis.ResultsThe study showed that the participants had medium-level prenatal adaptation and parenthood self-efficacy. In addition, there was a statistically significant relationship between prenatal adaptation and parenthood self-efficacy. At the same time, participants' demographic characteristics also influenced their prenatal adaptation and parenthood self-efficacy scores.Conclusions(1) This study found that increasing the parenthood self-efficacy levels of pregnant women improves their adaptation to the prenatal period. (2) The participants displayed a medium level of prenatal adaptation and parenting self-efficacy. (3) The demographic characteristics of the participants affected their prenatal adaptation and self-efficacy levels for parenting tasks. In addition to improving the prenatal adjustment by increasing the parenting self-efficacy of pregnant women, the government should arrange programmes that will enhance their parenting self-efficacy.Öğe The correlation of depression with neglect and abuse in individuals over 65 years of age(Wiley, 2020) Aylaz, Rukuye; Pekince, Hatice; Isik, Kevser; Akturk, Ummuehan; Yildirim, HilalPurposeThis study was conducted to evaluate the correlation of neglect and abuse with depression in individuals over 65 years of age. In accordance with these results, hopes of Syrian refugees for the future can be increased by improving their social support system.Öğe The effect of anxiety levels of elderly people in quarantine on depression during covid-19 pandemic(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2021) Yildirim, Hilal; Isik, Kevser; Aylaz, RukuyeThis study aims to determine the effect on depression of elderly people's anxiety levels in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a descriptive study, in which data were collected using the online survey method, an introductory information form, a semistructured data form for COVID-19, the Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Geriatric Depression Scale. Data were collected during the period when a curfew was imposed for the elderly. Data were analyzed using a structural equation model. According to the structural equation model, anxiety was determined as a predictor of depression. The anxiety levels of the elderly who were 65-74 years old, female, single; had insufficient knowledge about the pandemic; and had not encountered a similar outbreak before considered that family relationships were affected negatively so they became lonely and reported that they became bored, exhausted, and distressed during the pandemic, which increased their depression levels. Anxiety affects depression in the elderly. Therefore, it is recommended to provide them with appropriate psychological support interventions and understandable information about the pandemic so that their anxiety and depression levels can be reduced during the pandemic.Öğe Effects of Fasting in the Month of Ramadan on Circadian Cortisol Levels(Wiley-Blackwell, 2015) Ozgocer, Tuba; Ucar, Cihat; Yildirim, Hilal; Cakan, Pinar; Yildiz, Sedat[Abstract Not Available]Öğe The effects of group counseling based on the solution-focused approach on anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviors in individuals with eating disorders(Wiley, 2022) Yildirim, Hilal; Aylaz, RukuyePurpose This study was conducted to determine the effects of group counseling based on the solution-focused approach (SFA) on anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviors in individuals with eating disorders. The study was carried out with 430 older adults registered at two family health centers. The results of the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy and the Bartlett's test, which was used to determine the suitability of the measurement tool for factor analysis, were found as .83 and .000, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha value of the instrument was found as .88. As a result of the construct validity analysis, the scale consisted of 8 factors with 31 items. The Healthy Aging Instrument had sufficient internal consistency reliability and construct validity. The results were considered suitable for a scale adapted to Turkish. As the study is limited to the region where the scale was applied, further psychometric tests should be performed in different countries considering cultural varieties.Öğe Psychometric evaluation of the patient perspective on care and rehabilitation scale in geriatric patients(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2019) Erci, Behice; Yildirim, Hilal; Isik, KevserObjectives: This methodological study was conducted to psychometrically evaluate the Patient Perspective on Care and Rehabilitation Scale in geriatric patients. Methods: This study was conducted with 209 elderly individuals aged 65 years or older who were hospitalized in a hospital in Turkey between March and September 2017. The data were collected by using the Elderly Information Questionnaire prepared by the researcher and the Turkish version of the Patient Perspective on Care and Rehabilitation Scale. Cronbach's Alpha and item-total correlation for the internal consistency, reliability and intraclass correlation coefficients for the test-retest reliability, and Bartlett's test and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) were used for the validity of the scale. Results: that the result of the KMO test was significant at.87, and the result of the Bartlett's test was significant on the level of p:.001. The Cronbach's Alpha value was found as 0.89 for the overall PaPeR scale and between.84 and.87 for the subscales of PaPeR. In factor analysis, the eigenvalue was above 1, the scale covered 2 factors and accounted for 53.7% of the total variance. Conclusion: The validity and reliability analysis conducted in this study provided evidence for the acceptability of the scale. The Turkish version of the scale is easy to understand and allows evaluation of patient perspectives on quality of care and rehabilitation in geriatric patients. It is recommended to reach larger populations and apply the scale in different regions.Öğe Psychometric evaluation of the patient perspective on care and rehabilitation scale in geriatric patients (vol 81, pg 84, 2019)(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2020) Erci, Behice; Yildirim, Hilal; Isik, Kevser[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Psychosocial status of older adults aged 65 years and over during lockdown in Turkey and their perspectives on the outbreak(Wiley-Hindawi, 2022) Yildirim, HilalOlder adults over the age of 65 were announced as a high-risk group in the COVID-19 outbreak and had to be placed on lockdown for a long time. The research was conducted to identify the psychosocial status, attitudes, and experiences of individuals aged 65 and over who were in-home lockdown during the COVID-19 outbreak in Turkey. In the study, 51 older adults were reached using the snowball sampling method. The research data were collected through qualitative interviews from older adults who were in house restrictions during the pandemic period, and thematic analysis was performed. As a result of the interviews, four main themes revealed as (a) Growing old is like a crime: The public perception of the older adults regarding the stigma associated with aging, (b) The inevitable course: Potential possibilities arising as a result of the pandemic period, (c) The cost of lockdown at home: Risk factors arising due to staying at home for a long time, (d) The desire for equality: The developing resistance against lockdown and demands for equality. The lockdown applied exclusively to older adults forced them to create new routines and made them aware of some values; however, they asserted that they were stigmatized and lonely, that their concerns about death/catching COVID-19 increased, and they were treated unfairly. Measures should be taken to prevent mental problems in older adults. In addition, public health nurses are advised to provide preventive care services and counselling for early intervention.Öğe The relationship between perceived loneliness and depression in the elderly and influencing factors(Wiley, 2021) Isik, Kevser; Basogul, Ceyda; Yildirim, HilalPurpose This study was carried out to determine the relationship between perceived loneliness and depression in the elderly and influencing factors Design and Methods This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 501 elderly.
