Özet
Kentsel açık alanlarda gerçekleşen sosyal hayatın kent yaşamına ve kentlilere
katkısı yaşam kalitesini doğrudan etkilemektedir. Kentsel açık mekânların
toplum olma duygusunu geliştirmek, sosyalleşmeyi teşvik etmek, kimliğin
gelişimine katkıda bulunmak, demokratik dışavurumlara sahne oluşturmak,
geçmişten günümüze sürekliliği sağlamak vb. gibi pek çok faydalar sağladığı
belirtilmiştir. Araştırmalar bekleme, oturma, yaslanma, dinlenme gibi durağan
etkinliklerin varlığının sosyalleşmeye yönelik etkinliklere zemin hazırladığını,
bu etkinliklerin varlığının bir alanın kullanımını ve canlılığını ortaya koyduğunu
belirtir. Özellikle oturma ve beraberinde gerçekleşen etkinlikler kentsel
kamusal alanların başarısında önemlidir. Çünkü ancak oturmaya ilişkin
fırsatların olduğu yerlerde insanların belirli bir süreyle durması ve diğer
etkinliklere katılması mümkün olur. Sosyal hayatın oluşumunda bu denli
önemli olan oturma yerlerinin tasarımı nasıl olmalıdır? Bu çalışmada kentsel
açık mekânlardaki oturma yerlerinin tasarımına ilişkin hususlar detaylıca ele
alınmış, farklı açılardan tartışılmış ve mevcut literatürle örneklendirilmiştir.
Oturma yerlerinin tasarımına yönelik olarak davranışsal/işlevsel, konfor ve
algısal/psikolojik başlıkları altında çok sayıda faktör tartışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak
sosyalleşmeyi teşvik edecek oturma yerlerinin tasarımının çok sayıda faktörün
değerlendirilmesi ve göz önünde bulundurulmasını gerektirdiği ortaya
koyulmuştur.
The contributions of social life taking place at urban open spaces to city life and citizens directly affect the quality of life. It was suggested that public open spaces have multiple social benefits such as enhancing the sense of community, encouraging sociability, contributing to identity development, being a stage for democratic expressions, providing continuity from past to present. Existing researches showed that stationary activities like standing, sitting, leaning, and relaxing paves the way for social activities; the existence of stationary activities creates highly use and vitality in a public open space. Especially sitting and attendant activities are important for the success of public open spaces. Because only when opportunities for sitting exit can there be stays of any duration and engaging other activities. How sitting spaces which has such substantial role in the occurrence of social life must be designed? In this study subjects about the design of seating areas in public open spaces were considered in detail, discussed from different point of views and exampled with existing literature. Various design issues under the groups of behavioral/functional, comfort, and perceptual/psychological factors were examined. As a result, it was determined that in the design process of seating furniture that aimed to encourage sociability various factor must be taken into account and evaluated.
