Aim: The study was conducted to determine the effect of motivational interviews made with primiparous pregnant women with low belief in normal birth on medical and natural birth belief. Material and Method: The study was conducted in a randomized controlled manner with a total of 148 pregnant women who applied to the gynecology outpatient clinics of Malatya Gynecology and Childhood Hospital between February and September 2021 (74 experiments, 74 controls). Personal Information Form, Belief Scale for Normal Delivery (BSND) and Birth Beliefs (Natural and medical birth belief) Scale (BBS) were used to obtain data. A total of four sessions of motivational interviews were conducted with the pregnant women in the experimental group, one week apart. No intervention was performed on the pregnant women in the control group. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's chi-square test, and dependent and independent t-test were used to analyze the data. Results: After the motivational interviews, it was determined that the total mean scores of the natural birth belief of the pregnant women in the experimental group increased significantly compared to the control group, while the level of medical birth belief decreased significantly. In addition, after the motivational interview, it was determined that 58.1% of the pregnant women in the experimental group and 40.5% of the pregnant women in the control group had normal vaginal delivery, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that motivational interviews conducted with primiparous pregnant women with low belief in normal birth increased their belief in natural birth and decreased their belief in medical birth and cesarean section rates. Keywords: Natural birth belief, Midwifery, Pregnancy, Medical birth belief, Motivational interview.
