German artist Joseph Beuys included everyone in the creation process through their artistic abilities with the words Every person is an artist. He was a versatile artist who worked on graphics, painting, sculpture, performance, video art and installation. Beuys also believed in the healing power of art, adopting an understanding in which the ordinary art object is excluded, in favour of the value of the finished work which leads people to think and question. In addition to the existence of invisible materials such as sound and thought in the works of the artist, both felt and oil, which can be seen in history and mythology, have an important place. According to the myth, oil and felt, which reconnected the artist to life during his captivity, frequently appeared in the artist's future works and became one of the basic materials of Beuys' art. In the research carried out using the descriptive scanning model, a literature review was conducted on Beuys's understanding of art and his works. The research is limited to the works in which oil and felt are used, which were among the materials that Beuys generally preferred, and the views on the use of these materials. This is then related to his life, and his understanding of art and mythology. According to the research findings, it has been seen that the artist, uses oil and felt these as symbols of transformation, energy, insulation, will, binding to life, and social recovery.
