Özet
Purpose: In this study the effect of chronic alcohol consumption on pancreas mast cells of rats was investigated at light microscopic levels. Material and Methods: The study was performed on male Wistar albino rats. The experimental group was fed with a modified liquid diet (MLD) containing 7.2 % ethanol for 2,4 and 6 months. Control rats were fed on isocaloric MLD with no ethanol. At the end of the experimental feeding period, samples were fixed in Bouin solution. The sections were stained with Heamatoxylen-Eosin and Toluidin Blue methods. Results: This study revealed that the number of mast cells was significantly reduced in the alcoholic group when compared with the control group. Mast cells also showed degranulation in the experimental group. Conclusion: We conclude that alcohol induced the secretion of mast cell mediators in the pancreas of the alcohol fed rats.
