Background and design. - For the purpose of comparing the efficacy of hydroquinone alone or a combination (with retinoic acid and corticosteroid) in the treatment of melasma, two groups of patients were studied. Results. - Hydroquinone and combination therapy were used for three months in each group (20 patients). There was no significant difference between the efficacy and the side effects of the two therapy schedule. Conclusion. - We concluded that hydroquinone alone is sufficient in the treatment of melasma because of its economic and practical properties.en_US
