| dc.description.abstract | Liberty is a concept that has both thought and action time in one's home, and therefore wars have been fought for it, and debates continue on it today. It is known that, like many concepts originating from humans, the concept of liberty has various meanings depending on the geography and conditions of time. In addition, the relationship of liberty with some concepts and facts add very different features to liberty. An even more different idea is that liberty has been felt with different perceptions from individual to individual or society to society. It is essential to conduct research on liberty and similar issues, which are perceived and valued differently in the lives of individuals and societies, and whose presence or absence is important for life. Another concept that has a similar function to liberty is religion. The demand to add meaning and value to one's life leads the individual to the desire to connect to the sacred and introduces the individual to the concept of religion. The individual's ability to realize himself and add meaning to his life by choosing the sacred or sacred things that he desires with his own free thought can only occur within the existence and framework of the concept of liberty. The context of the relationship between liberty and religion is that a person can express his opinion openly, choose his belief freely, learn and share his belief in the dimension of knowledge, put the requirements of his belief into practice in the dimension of experience, and not be hindered in the social and political dimension. No matter where in the world there are people and societies, there is also a religion or belief system. Throughout history, all societies have produced religious systems of divine or human origin. Liberty is also needed to live/keep beliefs alive, but there are cases where this need is ignored or even prevented. For example, in the early years of Islam, the oppression, cruelty and coercive practices of the Meccan polytheists against Muslims were a major obstacle to the free practice of faith, and liberty of religion was one of the mandatory justifications for the migration to Medina. The pages of history are full of similar examples. These examples are in different shapes and sizes today; It manifests itself as individual, social, political, cultural and ethnic. Today, liberty of religion appears as a frequently discussed and up-to-date phenomenon within liberty theories. This study discusses the relationship between religion and liberty within the framework of the two concepts of liberty thesis of Russian-origin philosopher and political scientist Isaiah Berlin, who has entered into discussions on liberty. The article discusses the position of religion between negative liberty and positive liberty. Isaiah Berlin's article Two Concepts of Liberty inspired the study. Berlin attempts to define two types of liberty as negative liberty and positive liberty, but then states that the two libertys cannot be separated from each other with clear statements. In this study, it is aimed to put forward an idea about what position and how religion will be, based on Berlin's two conceptualizations of liberty. The main question of the study is Can religion find a place for itself between two libertys? It is in the form. Does religion limit liberty? or Is there liberty of religion? Let alone seeking an answer to the question, the question itself reveals the relationship between liberty and religion. How is liberty of religion positioned when not being hindered in doing something is stated as negative liberty, while the demand to be free to do something is stated as positive liberty? Where is religion between two libertys? The answer to this question raises a problem. Since negative and positive liberty cannot be fully defined and both libertys have problematic aspects, religion will not be able to fully take a place between the two libertys. So much so that Berlin himself does not mention the phenomenon of religion much in his article. As far as he is concerned, the information he conveys is not sufficient to determine the place of religion between the two libertys. For this reason, the relationship between religion and the two libertys, which Isaiah Berlin did not touch upon sufficiently, has been tried to be discussed and examined in depth in this article.
