ABSTRACT The Effect of Informing Patient Relatives via Short Message on Anxiety Levels During Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of informing relatives of patients via short message service during coronary artery bypass graft surgery on their anxiety levels. Material and method: This study randomized controlled was conducted between March 2024 and July 2025, in the Cardiac Surgery Department and Operating Room Waiting Area of Malatya Training and Research Hospital. The study population consisted of relatives of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (n=180). The sample included 68 patient relatives (34 experimental group and 34 control group). Data were collected using the Patient and Relative Information Form, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The experimental group received four short messages to inform them during the surgery. In data analysis, Kurtosis, Skewness coefficients, Pearson chi-square, Independent Samples t-test, and Paired Samples t-test were used. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the pre-test State and Trait Anxiety scores between the experimental and control groups (p>0.05). The post-test State Anxiety scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group (p<0.05). It was also found that the post-operative State Anxiety scores decreased compared to the pre-operative scores in both groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the state anxiety levels of the patient relatives in the experimental group, who were informed via short messages, decreased significantly more than those in the control group, indicating that information via short messeges redeces anxiety levels.
