This study investigates the impact of authentic leadership on crisis management, specifically in the context of the February 2023 Kahramanmara & scedil; earthquakes in Turkey. Authentic leadership, defined by self-awareness, relational transparency, balanced information processing, and an internalised moral perspective, is posited to be particularly effective in managing crises. The research employs a cross-sectional survey design and includes data from 403 employees of Youth and Sports Provincial Directorates in both earthquake-affected regions (Kahramanmara & scedil; and Malatya) and an unaffected region (Karaman). The findings reveal a significant positive relationship between authentic leadership and during-crisis management activities. Moreover, geographical location was found to moderate this relationship. The effect of authentic leadership was significantly stronger in the earthquake-affected regions of Kahramanmara & scedil; and Malatya compared to the unaffected region of Karaman. These results suggest that authentic leadership plays a particularly critical role in contexts where organisations are directly exposed to crisis conditions. The study contributes to the literature by offering empirical evidence on the moderating role of geographical context in the relationship between authentic leadership and crisis management. These insights are valuable for practitioners and policymakers aiming to enhance leadership effectiveness in emergency response scenarios.
