A gravestone carved with a long text in Chinese and an old Turkic short text in runic letters composed of 17 lines were found at the end of 2012 in the capital of Tang period, Chang’an, as it was formerly called, or Xi’an, as it is now named. The gravestone was taken into protection in the Datangxishi Museum located in the same city. The inscription has attracted a lot of attention since the day it was found, and it was published a number of times in a short period of time. In this article, a new publication of the inscription has been made, and different interpretations and meanings have been supplied. The meanings and interpretations of the first two lines of the inscription in particular make up a significant part of this paper. Also, the problematic words in the remaining lines of the inscription have been analyzed. © 2014, Ahmet Yesevi University. All rights reserved.en_US
