Abstract: Papillary carcinoma is the most frequent histopathological type of thyroid gland carcinomas, among which numerous subtypes such as follicular, encapsulated, diffuse sclerozing, columnar, and tall cell variants have been described. "Tall cell" variant is a rare subtype which was first described by Hawk and Hazard in 1976. Main feature of this subtype is the aggressive clinical trial and mortality rates around 20-25%. Tall cell papillary carcinomas of the thyroid gland are often large neoplasms and have a conspicuously papillary gross pattern. The average age of patients is greater than that of patients with conventional papillary carcinoma. In this manuscript, two cases of "tall cell" variant is discussed and the literature is reviewed.
