Freedom of liberty brought by the constitution prepared after the military intervention on May 27, led to power gain of the left ideology as well as right-wing ideologies including nationalists too in the Turkish political history. The idea of nationalism which started to revive after 27 May developed as a reaction against the leftist action rather than being as an independent movement in its own right and soon gained serious momentum in political and social life. Foreign issues, such as the Cyprus issue and the Johnson letter in the mid-1960's, triggered nationalist sentiments of the young people by creating a great impact on the youth. In the second half of the 1960's, by having being completed quickly of the organization of large-scale organizations initiated by nationalist politicians and students, during the 1968 student incidents, a major struggle against the lefttist groups and the ideology of communism was initiated. In this period, in face of the actions the leftist organizations initiated in universities because of the impact of power they gained, the nationalist youth have developed a hostile attitude towards the communists in the country and the ideology of communism depending on the influence of nationalist politicians and thinkers. 1968 youth events in Turkey which started with the impact of Europe, but which put forth a unique movement way with effect of the internal dynamics of the country made the anti-communist nationalists, who had a great social power across the country, confront the leftist groups, which wanted to establish a communist government in Turkey. Events that started with protests between two groups turned into mutual conflicts and violence which finished death in the end by increasing its dose in course of time.
