As a controversial topic in developed and developing countries, migration has been a dynamic field explained on the basis of cause and effect by economists. Migration is the movement of people from one settlement to another. In all countries, migration occurs as the result of economic, social, and political causes. In Turkey, the migration from east to the west mostly results from regional and provincial disparities. The advancement and industrialization of western provinces in comparison to the eastern provinces is deemed a critical factor in the rise of Turkey's internal wave of migration. As a result, it became necessary to analyze the migration-triggering factors on a provincial basis. In this study, determinants of the net migration level in the NUTS 3 level of 81 provinces in Turkey for the year 2000 have been estimated by using a spatial probit model. Findings demonstrate the positive and significant effects of industrialization, welfare, and human capital on the level of net migration. Another finding of this research is that there is spatial dependence between provinces.en_US
