Özet
Having a significant place in classical Turkish literature, nazires, which were wri>en with motives such as admiration, emulation, and ambition, have maintained their presence for centuries. Tahmises, shaped by similar motives as nazires, gradually became a literary tradition, just like ‘nazirecilik’ and their examples can be found in most divans. A tahmis, meaning the completion of a poet’s verse by expanding it into five-line stanzas, is composed by two different poets. Unlike nazires, tahmises, which create the impression of belonging to a single author due to their unified textual structure, require a distinct analytical approach. This necessitates a comparative examination of two interrelated texts and an exploration of how stylistic differences emerge despite shared thematic elements. In this context, the tahmis composed by Halepli Edîb on Urfalı Nâbî’s gazel with the redif “kalmamış” which is significant for reflecting the political and social structure of its time, is analyzed under three main headings, evaluating how both poets’ styles are shaped within a single poem. © 2025 Hacettepe University.
