Özet

Öz (İngilizce): OBJECTİVE: This experimental study was designed to determine the effects of antioxidants resveratrol and caffeic acid phenetyl ester (CAPE) on nitric oxide (NO) production on an in vivo model of ovarian ischemia-reperfusion in rats. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Rats were divided into five equal groups each consisting eight rats: sham operation, ischemia-reperfusion (I/R), I/R plus CAPE, I/R plus resveratrol and ischemia groups. CAPE and resveratrol was administered intraperitoneally before reperfusion. After experimental procedure rats were killed, ovaries were removed and prepared for NO concentrations. RESULTS: NO levels in saline/detorsion group were increased significantly when compared to sham operation and ischemia groups (p<0.05). Pretreatment with CAPE and resveratrol significantly attenuated the increase of NO levels in ovarian tissue in comparison to I/R and ischemia groups (p<0.05). In the resveratrol and CAPE groups NO levels were similar. CONCLUSİON: As adnexal torsion could influence further fertility of a young woman, new techniques to protect the ovary from I/R injury had to be improved. CAPE and resveratrol were natural antioxidants. We concluded that these medications would be useful to protect the ovaries from the I/R damage.
