dc.description.abstractSubchronic effects of azinphos-methyl. an organophosphorus pesticide, was investigated on swiss-albino mice (Mus musculus) under the laboratory conditions in this study. Different tissues were used for histological preparations and also plasma cholinesterase (ChE) activity was determined by spectrophotometric assay for F1 generation. Totally 29 mice were used for the ChE activity assays. Insecticide was added to drinking water (ad libitum) as 1.0 ppm or 0.1 ppm sublethal doses for 14 weeks. Results were compared with control group. Histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and brain tissues were determined using a light microscope. Plasma cholinesterase activity was inhibited 52.14% on males and 41.29% on females in 1.0 ppm exposure group and activity inhibition were occured at 31.0% and 29.84% respectively for 0.1 ppm exposure level. Enzymatic activity was found to be istatistically different between the control and treatment groups for male and female mice (P<0.001. P<0.02). Some histopathological changes, like necrosis, congestion, increase of the mitotic activity, enlargement of the sinusoids and pleomorphism of the hepatocytes, have been detected on liver tissues for both exposure groups, depending on the doses. However histologically no significant differences were found for kidney and brain tissues compared with treatment and control groups. © TÜBITAK.en_US
