A breeding study for identifying new apricot cultivars resistance to Sharka disease caused by Plum pox virus (PPV) was initiated at Inonu University in 2004. Cultivars exhibiting some resistance to PPV, 'Stark Early Orange', 'Harcot', 'Setalla' and 'Goldrich' were crossed to local apricot selections. A total of 3650 hybrid trees were planted coming from 55 combinations. The reactions of the hybrids to PPV is being evaluated molecularly. The crossing yielded variable success ratios from 2.3% ('Soganci' x 'Harcot') to 23.5% ('Cataloglu' x 'Harcot'). The fruits obtained from 2009 and 2010 from a total of 286 hybrids were subjected to pomological analyses. The fruit weight among these hybrids varied between 35.7-57.5 g while soluble solid content ranged between 16.0-23.7%. Further details regarding pomological characteristics of these hybrids will be provided during the presentation.en_US
