Özet

Energy balance is an important indicator that shows the efficiency of production methods and compares them. The energy balance of the sugar beet, which has an important place in the agricultural production of Turkey, was calculated for middle Anatolia conditions (Konya region). The sugar beet yield was 69 ton/ha (dry matter 25%), and the leaves yield was 33.8 ton/ha (dry matter 16%). The energy value of sugar beets and its leaf were 16.80 and 16.40 MJ/kg, respectively. The energy of fertilizer had the biggest share in total energy inputs, followed by the energy of diesel fuel and oil with a 43.31% share. Fuel used in irrigation had the most important share with 54.60% in totally used fuel and oil energy. To decrease energy inputs in sugar beet agriculture, it is necessary to optimize fertilizer application methods and irrigation methods. The previously found values support the results found in this study. Despite the disadvantages of the sugar law passed in 2001, sugar beet agriculture will maintain its importance in Turkey because of its high efficiency and high energy output.
