Selâhaddîn el-Alâî was a prolific scholar who lived in Cairo and Jerusalem during the Bahri Mamluk period and was praised as the imam of the century and the hafiz of Jerusalem. He authored dozens of works in many fields of knowledge, primarily hadith, fiqh and tafsir. The era in which he lived was a century of scientific advancement, despite the political and economic turmoil caused by the Crusades and the Mongol invasions. Al-Alâî took advantage of this environment and excelled in Islamic sciences. He became a particularly renowned figure in the field of hadith. This study, which focuses on "Selâhaddîn el-Alâî and His Hadith Scholarship," consists of an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction addresses the subject, methodology, and sources of the study. It also highlights the political, social, religious, and scientific context of the era in which Alâî lived. The first chapter, titled "The Life of Alâî," discusses his birth, name, titles, family, death, and the opinions of scholars about him, offering evaluations on the subject. Under the heading of his scholarly personality, his education, teaching career, creed, jurisprudence, scholarly travels, teachers, students, works, and studies conducted on him are discussed. The second chapter presents Alâî's definitions and conclusions on the topics of hadith methodology. In this context, each concept of hadith methodology emphasised by Alâî was analysed. Other issues related to the field of hadith were addressed in the third section. On the other hand, Alâî's views on the Companions, his method of criticism, the scholars he criticised, and his method of commentary were examined in general terms. The conclusion was drawn based on the explanations in these sections. Thus, with this study, we have attempted to reveal the life and hadith scholarship of Selâhaddîn el-Alâî, a prolific muhaddis who spent his life in the pursuit of knowledge.
