Özet
The aim of this research is to analyze psychological counselors’ practices of individual
psychological counseling and their perception of competence in these practices. 344
psychological counselors constitute the participants of the research. Frequency,
percentage, chi square statistics and content analysis were utilized in this research.
According to the obtained results, it was found that a large majority of psychological
counselors had counselling practice as a counselor during their education; most of
them received feedback within the master-apprentice (supervision) relationship; most
of them did individual counselling in their workplace; most of them perceived
themselves as competent in doing individual counseling and most of them did not
participate in training courses related to individual counselling. Also, in their
suggestions for the improvement of individual psychological counselling, it was seen
that counselors emphasized main themes such as Ministry of National Education
(MNE), the University, School and Psychological counselor. Obtained findings were
discussed in the light of the related body of literature and suggestions were made.
