Özet
3D printing may seem like a relatively new technology with its recent popularity and accessibility, but it has actually been used around since the 1980s. When fused deposition modelling (FDM) patent expired in 2009, the technology became available to both small and large companies in every industry to take advantage of and the landscaping architecture is no different. Models are an important form of visual representation. Traditional 2D graphics are a vital part of the design process; however, a tangible 3D model does not only clarify the details of the space but also ensures the client fully understands how the end product will look. This chapter is about the role of 3D models in landscape research and design. These landscape models, next to drawings and maps, are very important in the process of design research in landscape architecture. These models offer to landscape researchers and designers different perspectives for visual thinking and visual communication. © Peter Lang AG 2019.
