Aim: This research was conducted to determine the effect of white noise on sleep quality in patients who underwent surgery for urinary stones. Material and Method: The research was conducted in a randomized controlled manner. The study population consisted of patients (N = 966) who were hospitalized in the Urology Clinic of Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital and underwent surgery due to urinary system stones. The sample consisted of 84 patients. Data were collected using the Patient Information Form and the Richards Campbell Sleep Scale. The patients in the experimental group listened to white noise for 20 minutes before going to sleep in the evening on the day of surgery. Independent Sample-t, Paired Sample, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon, Kruskal-Wallis H, Pearson-x2 tests were used to evaluate the data. Results: The post-test sleep scale mean score of the patients in the experimental group was found to be statistically significantly higher than the mean score of the patients in the control group (Z = 6.701; p = 0.001). When the intra-group mean scores were examined, it was determined that the post-test sleep scale mean score of the patients in the experimental group was significantly higher than the pre-test (t=12.990; p<0.001). It was found that the difference between the pre-test and post-test sleep scale score averages of the patients in the control group was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the post-test sleep scale score averages of the experimental group that listened to white noise were higher than the control group and that white noise was effective in improving sleep quality. Key Words: White noise, Sleep quality, Urinary systems stone
