Özet
The purpose of this study was to examine earthquake knowledge levels and post-earthquake trauma following the Kahramanmara & scedil;-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023, which are widely referred to as the disaster of the century. The data collection process starting immediately after the major earthquakes centered in Kahramanmara & scedil; on February 6, 2023, is crucial for understanding the levels of earthquake knowledge and post-earthquake trauma in the study. The research sample included 434 participants who were students selected through random sampling methods and currently enrolled in the Faculties of Sports Sciences at universities in the cities of Kahramanmara & scedil;, Gaziantep, Malatya, and Ad & imath;yaman, which experienced the great earthquakes on February 6, 2023, in Turkey. In the study, there were significant differences in independent variables and, phases 1 and 2. Correlation analysis found a negative and moderately significant relationship levels. Through path analysis, it was observed that the Earthquake Knowledge Level Scale significantly predicted the sub-dimensions of the Post-Earthquake Trauma Level Determination Scale (p < .05). It was found that the sub-dimension of earthquake education significantly predicted the sub-dimension of emotivity, cognitive structure, and sleep problem (p < .05), and the sub-dimension of knowledge of earthquake effects significantly predicted behavior problems and affective sub-dimensions. Previous studies have paid less attention to individuals' post-disaster trauma levels. While many studies examine earthquake knowledge levels and make statements about the necessity of earthquakes, very few studies investigate the connection between disaster awareness and trauma. This study aimed to shed light on this issue.
