There are important duties of all school stakeholders, especially school administrators and teachers, in the continuous monitoring of teachers’ behavior in their work in accordance with professional ethics and, where necessary, the identification of ethical violations. One of the concrete signs that teachers are not regarded as ordinary government officers is the teacher’s oath that the ethical principles of the teaching profession are not sufficiently considered. In this research, qualitative research approach was used because it was aimed to determine the contribution of teacher oath to teaching profession values. The qualitative research is based on examining the object in its own context therefore this research was done with the teachers. In this context, the study group of study constitutes 50 teachers in official primary and secondary education institutions in Yeşilyurt and Battalgazi districts in Malatya during the 2017-2018 school year. The number of teachers in the study group was determined based on data saturation. In the case of the study group, sampling of easily accessible cases was used from purposeful sampling techniques. The Teacher oath consists of general statements that can be considered valid for all civil servants. The content is not wrong, but it does not contain the ethical principles of the teaching profession. This oath is not seen as a professional profession but as an ordinary civil service. However, a professional teacher must swear not on national values but on professional ethics principles as it is in Hippocrates. © 2020. All Rights Reserved.
