In Arabic literature, didactic poetry is a poem written to convey information about an idea or a subject quickly and directly, without going into detail or prolonging the story, and to facilitate memorization. Although the didactic feature has been present in Arabic poetry for a long time, it became widespread during the Abbasid period as a result of interaction with different nations. Didactic (educational-instructive) poetry called "eş-Şi'ru't-ta'lîmî" ( ????? ???????? ) is a verse poem written in a field or on a subject related to a field, far from emotion, with little artistic aspect, written in couplets and mostly with the verse style. The aim of these poems is to facilitate memorization, to teach quickly and to ensure memorability in education. Didactic poems written in many fields have been representative of the peak in the field in which they were written. Didactic poems, which were used effectively in Arabic literature during the Ottoman period, became an indispensable part of education. In the first part of our study, the periods of Arabic literature were discussed. In the second part, the development of didactic poetry in the periods of didactic poetry and Arabic literature was examined.
