Özet
This article addresses the impacts of cancer on quality of life in women with breast cancer, and interventions to improve their quality of life. Quality of life consists of psychological, social, physical, and spiritual well-being. The diagnosis of cancer has an impact on all aspects of life for the patient and family as well. Nurses are in contact with women with breast cancer at all stages of the disease and treatment. They meet the women in the hospital, at the outpatient clinic, and in their homes. The planning and implementation of care for women with breast cancer must be tailored to address the different demonstrated by age and psychosocial life stage, and to enhance quality of life outcomes for survivors of breast cancer, both young and old, and to improve nursing practice at the different stages of the illness, from the pretreatment phase to posttreatment follow-up assessment. Supportive interventions to improve quality of life of all women with breast cancer should include spiritual and social support, participation in support groups, individual and family counseling, patient education, and management of coping skills.
