Özet
The contemporary world is replete with situations and disasters that have the potential to cause sudden and significant damage. At least one of the disasters that are increasing in frequency and number worldwide is observed in urban areas. In addition to international strategies and agreements, numerous novel approaches, theories, propositions, techniques, models, and indicators are being developed to identify solutions to conflicts between human and natural systems, particularly in urban contexts. The United Nations has identified urbanization as a critical factor in ensuring collective and inclusive progress and has set the goal of "Sustainable cities and societies" (Goal 11; Urban SDG) as part of its broader "Transforming our world" agenda, The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development be synchronized with other SDGs and disaster prevention approaches, with the establishment of targets and indicators. It is our contention that such synchronization can be achieved by implementing ecological planning and design approaches at both the macro and micro scales. Given the direct and intense relationship between SDG 11 and social sustainability, it is possible to discuss the compatibility of the two concerning the principles and targets of ecological planning approaches. Ecological landscape planning is a process of strategic environmental management that aims to achieve ecological balance by integrating ecological principles and society-nature laws. Therefore, although SDG 11 is compatible with ecological planning, it should be expanded to encompass non-human entities at its core. © 2025 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
