This chapter serves as an introduction to volume two of The Ethics of Bribery series. The focus is on country studies. The book consists of five substantive sections and includes discussions of attitudes toward bribery from the perspectives of 19 countries; four chapters look at bribery based on country groupings on the basis of income level; six chapters analyze bribery from regional perspectives; eight chapters examine bribery from the perspectives of eight different religions; the final chapters attempt to determine how seriously bribery is viewed in 92 countries compared to other offenses, the goal being to determine what the punishment should be if one adopts the premise that the punishment should fit the crime. © 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
