Özet

The effect of television and television commercials on 266 primary school student's food preferences are investigated in Adiyaman and Kahta towns. Television commercials found to be notably effective on children's consumption trend. However, the intensification of trends towards mostly advertised products which orient to wrong feeding habits rather than healthy nutrition was an important outcome evidently showing televisions negative effect. Children staying for a long time in front of television consume more food than the daily requirement. Children's orientation to more adult oriented items such as tea and coffee instead of more nutritious milk, fruit juice or watered yogurt is an indicator of wrong feeding habit. Thus, precautions should be undertaken to prevent from negative effects originated from television. However, the precautions should be realized not for banning but with catchy and attention grabbing programs which will result in more efficient positive effects on children behaviors.
