It is known that essential oils obtained from plants have medical and industrial uses, and the interest and demand for these oils is increasing day by day. In recent years, it has been encapsulated and used in finishing processes in order to add functionality to textile materials. The purpose of encapsulation is to ensure that essential oils can be used for a long time and are resistant to environmental conditions such as washing conditions. In this context, the properties of the essential oil and shell material to be used in encapsulation play an important role. In this study, it is aimed that the encapsulation of the essential oil which is obtained from Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn.) tree leaves growing in Muğla Gökova Gulf with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, also known as baker's yeast, which is a natural shell material and is resistant to environmental conditions, and gain antibacterial properties by applying to the textile material. The collected leaves were dried under different conditions (drying in room conditions and microwave drying) and their essential oils were obtained by using hydrodistilation method. The chemical composition of the essential oils was made by GC / MS analysis. The yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was first plasmolized for the encapsulation process. The essential oil was encapsulated with plasmolized yeast shell material and characterized by SEM and FT-IR. The essential oil loaded microcapsules were applied to cotton fabric in padding using the impregnation method, and the performance properties such as washing strength and tensile strength, abrasion resistance, dry and wet rubbing fastness were investigated. The adhesion/retention of microcapsules on the fabric before and after washing was observed with SEM images. It was observed that the application process was successful, but much of the microcapsules were removed from the fabrics after washing. As a result of the antibacterial tests, it was determined that eucalyptus essential oil and the essential oil loaded microcapsules have antibacterial effect, but the microcapsule loaded fabrics containing essential oil do not have the expected antibacterial effect due to their low washing fastness.
